How would you describe how La Bella tapes age? At nine months on my D'Addario tapes, I consider them Day 1 New.

The color change is happening on the strings inside, not on the outer clear nylon wrapping material that gets touched, right?

As if the (80/20 bronze?) material that La Bella used for the strings inside was oxidised.

I have a set of La Bella Copper White Nylon, but I've yet to use it.

Right the nylon is clean. Vinegar, salt residue work its way through over night. Yeah, I think it's 80/20 bronze under there? That would explain why they feel like classical guitar strings.

After about 14 months, playing 1hr to 5hrs per. day
They've sounded the same ever since seating in on day 2 or 3.

Anyone got any experience with 5 string using nylon flats? I've never used flats on any of my basses but I want to see what flats do for my reggae sound.

However as I'm only trying them out I don't want to mess with cutting a deeper slot in the nut since it is brass. My usual strings are roundwounds with gauges of 45/65/80/100/130 and they fit great. These labella I'm looking at run from 060 - 070 - 094 - 115 - 135 or .050, .065, .085, .105, .135 so I wonder if they will still fit the nut current slots or will this difference in gauge cause them not to sit too high in the nut and maybe the saddle and give me an uncomfortably high nut and/or other intonation issues by pulling sharp when fretting near the nut.
I don't. plan to use them as a general string, only for the bass I use primarily for reggae so it's a bit of experimentation.


Any advice gratefully recieved.
