TapeWound Club~Anyone?

I was searching for a double bass simulation sound on my Yamaha fretless. I like Rotosound RS 88's. I talked with the manufacturer reps about the E string length. Their response P's and J's have reported too short like my Yama copy. They are now lengthening the E slightly. I've been fond of how long Rotosounds lasted. I find that these tapes do not last as long as flats or round wounds. My 2 cents I'm a tape's fan. I'd be proud to have a # in this discussion. My fingers have been grateful as well.
12many is Member #27! Welcome! I have not tried the Rotos, but my La Bellas, and D' Adds, just get Better with age. I have not changed them since I put them on. O.O But, I am a Thumpy P-Bass guy, too.... :smug::bassist:

I DO have to say, I am SO IMPRESSED with the sounds of my new MTD Kingston Saratoga that I cannot take the buzzing caused by the Tapes anymore. I broke down and ordered a set of La Bella Flats for it today. I feel like a traitor, but I am not going to swap pickups to get rid of Buzz on this one, as good as it sounds. I am Fired.

I have been playing my Tapes for a Few days with the FretWraps now and I am Diggin' on them. No more ringing strings where you don't want them. Proaly a Technic Flaw on my Part, but and Easy fix, for now. :bassist:
I've looked at the FretWraps in the past and thought they were a neat idea but was concerned that with them on I couldn't use the first fret on any of the strings. Is that a valid concern?

The roundwounds are back on my fretted bass ... the white tapewounds do provide a nicely thumpy sound that works well in the mix if you want a slightly more old school sound, but I missed the top end and string character too much, plus effects like chorus and phaser disappear a bit when they have less sparkle to work with.

The white tapewounds will stay on the fretless though, they are very nice on that bass.

I'd love to participate. My list is as follows:
-SX 32" Jazz Bass with La Bella white tapes.
-Ibanez AEB5E acoustic bass with D'Addario tapes.

I also have a set of La Bella white tapes coming in the mail for my new Sterling SUB Ray4 and I plan on ordering a set of La Bella black tapes for my Fender Telecaster guitar.
