Heres my jazz

This is a fun idea. I have lots of basses that I would love to submit shots of, but there are definitely more than 12 shots here that exceed my photographic skills. I'd be happy to take a crack at some shots, though. Is there a deadline for submissions?

Oh, and is psychedelic carpet allowed? :D

If'n I had the time to do it, some shots I might like to redo with this project in mind might include:

I'd love to do a better take on this shot:

If you would consider a non-bass shot, I always kinda liked this one:

And I could even clean my frets and redo this one! :smug:

Here's one for the 'first bass' or 'cheapies' category:

And I'd need to put the whammy bar on, but all those knobs, switches, points, and hard angles are certainly something. :smug:

Fender Japan Tele Thinline.
IMHO, the neck pup sounds similar, but not same as, the Squier Vintage TB; the bridge pup is predictably thin in comparison.
Neat basses, both of them.
The Precision A/E below benefits greatly from installing a buffer for the piezo, which I think Tom has already done.

Thanks, Chef!

Can you tell I'm GAS-ing for a hollowbody?

I've been thinking about having a passive hollowbody J with single or dual Dark Stars made for my 40th b-day next year.

Midlife crisis anyone? Cheaper than a sports car, and less hassle than an affair, I guess. :p

What are these basses? They look quite nice ;0)

Those are both Curbows. The top one is an American Petite 5 (made by Greg Curbow). The bottom one is a Custom 'Jazz' Fretless 5, which was made by Doug Somervell, who both worked with Greg and took over as the main luthier after Greg passed away. This was one of the last basses made by Curbow, and it was the one I reviewed for Bass Guitar Magazine, so I was thrilled to be able to pick it up. :)

You beat me to it, Alan!

They are both really great basses, but yes, the Precision A/E can benefit from some tweaks. First off, that piezo definitely needs a buffer, and the buffer helped a great deal. But, not one to leave well enough alone, I also decided to replace the magnetic pickup with a Nordstrand, which my tech tells me made a HUGE improvement (I haven't heard it yet). We also decided to try a Bartolini stacked bass/treble preamp, and it sounds like we are going to buffer the Nordstrand pickup, as well (the blend is more natural when they are both buffered). I'm going to see if Walter will build me a buffer for the magnetic pickup, as well.

Tom.
