TB Runners Club!

We (my girlfriend tricked both me and her sister into running) already plan on doing it again next year. I should be in the same corral as my girlfriend, which should make things more exciting.

It gets easier as you do it year after year, because you've built up the strength and stamina and when you go to train again next year after not having run for awhile it stays with you. With a 2 hour first time, I'd say you could do 1:50 next year with the same training! I went from 2:08:41 in the snow after cheating my training a few times, to 1:44:01 in good weather with the same training schedule one year later. You'll only do better from here as long as you stay true to your training.

Ick.

Provincials this Thursday, 2.5 hours away at the only place in Manitoba that has natural hills (and believe me, it has hills). Now, not being all that used to hills, except for a few times out at Garbage Hill, we have to run 5K up and down what my friends who have already been there call hell....

Great.

Resurrecting this on account of my 4th half marathon completion today! I took a different training approach, focusing more on muscular strength rather than doing long runs. Happy to say I have set a new personal best, with my unofficial time being around 1:39:30, the official time should be slightly under that. No knee problems this run, which is a good sign as I've had knee troubles throughout my running career. Good luck to everyone in whatever race they may be running this year, or cycling, or anybody who's staying in shape in some way or another!

I took up running at the beginning of the year as my 'resolution' for myself. So far so good, when I started I struggled to run a mile, and just yesterday I did a 7.5 mile loop outside in about an hour and change without too much stress. Aiming for a half marathon here later this year.

For training, I've been using the couch to 10k (just finished) and more recently the couch to 21k apps. Very nice little apps, good training schedule and fun motivators. Got a beginner like myself going pretty good relatively quickly :)

Whooo! other runners! I've got a track meet tomorrow where I'm running the 1500 and the 800. I'm going to try to beat my PR of 4:45 in the 1500, got to 4:46 last week so i'm getting close!:hyper:

Well done sir! I started three years ago and ran my first half with about 4 months of questionable training, I wasn't really that into it so I was sort of jogging here and there, skipping runs when I didn't feel like it and such. This year the biggest difference was that motivation, officially ran a 1:39:19 half but I trained like crazy for three months plus school track and field and such! Keep on it and I don't doubt you'll do well!

I run to keep in shape. Although I haven't ran in about a week (because of up coming finals) my routine used to be 3 miles in the morning around 5, 1 or 3 miles at 3pm depending on how busy I am, and sometimes I'd run another mile at 7ish, depending on how I felt.

I'd like to sign up for a half marathon or something one of these days.

Nice! I'm better at the longer stuff, my 800m PR is 2:28 IIRC, and I'm not sure what my 1500 and 3000 were like last year. How'd it go?

It went great! Droped my PR to 4:35 at that meet! Just had a fun 80's themed relay meet today(lots of neons and spandex), and I think I ran the 800m leg of the distance medley relay in the mid to low 2:20's still waiting for results. Hopefully that's a PR. Ran in a tye-dye long sleeve and had some chicks I didn't know cheer for my shirt. That probably helped :-). I ran the 3000m on Saturday for the first time since Freshman year (I'm a HS Senior) and ran a 10:37 I'd say that's good for a race I don't train for! Also today we had a distance 4x100 just for fun, I ran the anchor leg in my schools mascot costume, maybe I'll post some pics later.

Sure, I like to jog often. I used to be a lot more of a runner a few years back, and I have my share of 5 and 10k races. No half marathons for me.

Even if I'm not that much of a runner these days, can I still get a number if I do so once a week? I do other stuff for workout in combination to jogging (dancing, swimming, weightlifting and kickboxing pretty much cover it).

Good luck with those two races this Friday! The 1500 is my favorite race to run! Have fun out there and let us know how it goes!

Sorry guys, haven't been around much, ran a 4:58 1500 and came in 5th in my conference, and a 2:26 800, 7th in the conference. Since I'm really not accustomed to those shorter distances I'm not hating those results, but I think I'll work more on the shorter stuff for next year and the year after (currently only a sophomore, I've got time).

But alas, I've paid the price. My summer running plans have been shot, and next cross country season is in question as I went to the clinic for shin pain yesterday and found probable stress fractures in my right shin. I'm not allowed to run for at least a month, if not the whole summer, and may have to go for a bone scan in a few weeks. Nothing showed in the X-ray, which isn't a big surprise as they often don't, but it does mean that they're currently not major fractures.

I ran for years.
Everything from the mile to 26.2.
Never any serious injuries.
I do know that for the marathons, I put down a minimum of 70 miles per week. 10 per day @ five days and a 20 on the weekend.
I learned the hard way by "hitting the wall" because I was trying to squeek by on 40-50 mile weeks. PR 2:56.

Now the mile and 5k's are a whole different way of training as you know for sure.
Speed work on the track. Pyramids.
Oh, I hated the track. It hurt so bad but the payoff is great.
Not big on numbers but at 35 yrs old I ran a 4:44 mile.
Not good enough for the podium but I was happy.
Good Luck. Fastest way to burn calories unless you are
training for a pro boxing match.

That's a really good time as a sophomore (4:58 was my PR that year as well). Your 800 time looks really good, I find those are hard to run after 1500. I'm really sad to hear about those stress fractures. They are never good, I know quite a few runners who have had that problem. It may be a good chance to do a little cross training (ab workouts?) hope fully you recover well enough to run for the season! Good luck!
