TB trade gone bad. Am I crazy? Am I wrong?

On a lark, I created a second account on Harmony-central for the "political" forum. I expected it to last a week or so, but it went on for almost a year IIRC. It REALLY frustrated my "political enemies" because one of them did figure out that it was probably me, but he wasn't sure. I was very careful to use language differently, but both of my accounts agreed with each other on all subjects.

And that last sentence was really the only reason he believed it was me.'

My two ID's would even have converstations and amplify each other's points. I used Firefox for one and Chrome for the other and conversed in real time. I figured the first time someone complained that a quick IP check by the mod would nail me. It did, but after many months.

And with tethering from your phone, free wi-fi, etc. it is ridiculously easy to set up a new account on a site using a random IP. The only clue they have is if they don't get a lot of requests and then get one right after they ban a person.

I have never seen my account on any site (except facebook) as "me". It is always an "avatar". That said, it is me in every other way - personality and opinions. i.e. I don't lie about what I think and believe. And even when I created two accounts on HCPP, I never denied it. I just put on my politician hat with answers like, "I can't believe you think I'm him." :)

That probably wouldn't matter. I have seven email addresses. Whenever I set up an account on a site, the only information they have on me is my "junk" email address. If any of us wants to be, we can be amazinglyanonymous here. I share far more than I need to, but heck, I'm willing to do coffee with anyone here if they ever get to Louisville (or Seattle in late July).

Except facebook, which is used to communicate with people who I know outside of facebook.

It really was a lot of fun. I expected it, truth be told, to only last a few days at the most.

But not clever. Rather, it was an experiment. I just wanted to see what would happen. It was an eye opener in a LOT of different ways, technical, psychological, social.

I actually expanded the scope of the experiment to see just how far I could take it, continually increasing risk. That is where the real learning took place. It went from being a lark to being the kind of stuff books are written about.

I hear ya. I've learned to choose my battles wisely too. Often times it's just not worth the aggravation, though chances are the guy couldn't/wouldn't do a thing. It's easy to threaten legal action. It's costly to persue it.

As much as we're all angry about this, this is a horrible suggestion. That could result in the guy getting physically harmed or killed over $150~ in used Hipshot parts. I know somebody just got disrespected but there is no need to "keeps it real."

Wow....I agree with this! ;)

Too many people here willing to make threats or involve themselves. Outing someone as suggested is an outrageously bad idea.

I believe you are right.

To be clear, I'm not saying that since we've only heard one side, that it may be wrong, just that we've only heard one side.

And the fact that the other side is intentionally silent, it communicates quite clearly.
