TBC club

Follow up: Wasn't certain about this bass at first. Strings WAY too high for the way I like to play and neck pretty bowed toward the strings.

Spent some time cutting down an allen wrench last night so I could adjust the neck. Pulled it back significantly and let it rest over night. Lowered the strings this a.m. and have it much closer to what I prefer.

I think it will be a keeper. Good sound, particularly with preamp set flat. I like the three piece neck and the overall feel of it.

It's a 4 string fretless JLW(?!)..... His J body with a Lightwave setup... Don't know if you know, but Jack was in on the original Lightwave basses. And don't go asking him for a lightwave; mine is the last one he is making. On a lark, about 9 months ago I asked him if he could make on like Tim Lander's lightwave and he agreed to it. He still had some parts from when he made them years ago, so he was able to do it.

Can't wait for it to get here.... cambered body with a bocote top.... not just a TBC pickguard; full top. He said it has a little different headstock too.... He hasn't sent me any pics, so I am having to trust him on how it all looks.... He said that he is really pleased with it and I trust his word. I really like his work in general; I really like his J body. And when he was looking for the top wood, he didn't just take the first piece he found. He is a picky guy when it comes to the wood.....

When I get it I will tell all how it came out. :hyper:

That sounds absolutely awesome! I'm looking forward to a full review, and to TBC producing some more basses!

I know you said he isn't going to do anymore Lightwave basses, but do you know if he will offer special topwoods as an option now?

Thanks,
Christian

What did you order from him? Be interesting to see what you get.

I really am warming up to the AP500M. Not real crazy about the two-band preamp, but set flat...nice!

It's on its way.....

Bocote top and two octave fretless neck.:hyper:

More pix when I get it in my hands.....

Not sure about what is in store for the future with Jack... I know he is still working on some special projects. Hard to say what he will do next.

Does that have strings on it? I see them at the headstock, but then they dissappear!

In fact it has the Status Graphite tapewounds that you like so well.... Unfortunately the pic he sent is, well, a bit out of focus. He said that he was going to send more but have yet to get any. Actually, I just want him to ship the thing..... :hmm:

BTW it is a chambered body as well.... Like his other stuff...

I received an e-mail from Jack a short time ago. I had thought I might need a replacement neck and he did say it could be done. Turns out I didn't need one (whew) and my AP500M is getting regular workouts.

I really like the this bass. There is another thread rolling about a possible signature series model to be out sometime soon.
