Anybody here have one with the soapbar pickups? I'm really tempted to order one of these but I don't want hum from soloing a pickup so I'm nervous about the J-pups.
I became a proud new member of the TBC club with the arrival of my ap-500m on Friday. I'm so glad I bought this. Great looks, light, perfect balance for me, plenty of different tones, easy to play, and fits my hands just right. Fortunately, I've only been trying to learn bass since the summer using my son's 4 string Ibanez, so I don't have the long term playing memory to overcome. I love the feel and sound of this bass. Kudos to TBC for building a bass that just about anybody can afford, but feels, looks, and plays like a custom. I can see not being interested in another bass for a long long time. The wife is certainly grateful for that.

LOL... many of us have said that before.
Hang around TB much and you will develop a BAD case of the GAS.
LOL! GAS is what caused me to go looking in the first place. I've been having a good time using my son's bass, but I just wanted that "little extra something." The GAS is still there, actually, but it's for an amp this time. The only bass amp in the house is the little practice one that came in the pack. Right now, I'm using my guitar amp and my Boss Micro BR for late night practice.
For those of you who have them, do you have the 34" or 35" scale basses? I know they make both, I'm just curious how they feel and which you'd recommend?
And, what cases have you found fit them? Hardshell or good gig-bag?

Mine is a 34. I love the feel. I can't say anything about the 35s, though. I'm pretty new to bass in general, so I can't offer much advice.
I bought mine through ebay and the seller included a very nice Musician's Friend brand padded bag. The front pouch is even detachable. It's light, but protective enough for my use. I think if I were going to use it out much, I'd opt for a hard case. Especially if you may not be the only person handling it or if there's any chance of it being tossed in a trailer or van with other equipment. As for fit, I think a 35 would be at home in my bag.

I just got a JT400-SS on the 7th. I like it so far - but I'm looking forward to the strings deadening up a bit. The shipping situation was a little screwy, but I'm happy I got it. One thing mine has which is I think is brand new is a passive/active switch. There is no tone control however (that I've figured out anyway!) so I don't think I'll use it in passive mode much unless it's an emergency with a battery failure or something. I do like the blend knob between the pickups instead of 2 volumes pots but I think mine may be wired backwards as it seems to solo the pickups in the opposite direction of turning the knob but it's not a big deal.
Jack can be a bit slow via email, but he's always very nice, courteous etc.
For the price - you can't go wrong.

resurrecting this thread...traditionally TBC has been an inexpensive option [probably always will], but our basses are becoming more rare everyday that passes by. will this ultimately drive the price of the beloved TBC up?

Dunno, I've put in a couple of resent emails w/o response...anyone else had better luck contacting TBC as of late?
I just went to they're site - Thats some really nice looking stuff. I sure like the look of the JT400 series!
