Had some time to play with the new Amp, nifty thing that print tone feature and using the cellphone to change it is awesome (my wife was not so impressed though...) the Classic Chorus sounds great but I have a feeling that what will be installed probably 95% of the time is the Spectracomp effect.

Hi, just waded through the entire thread (and now i need a nap).. I played one of these at GC and was impressed..
I have been a little confused at the routing.. can someone confirm that music/metronome/drums/whatever through the aux in actually comes out of the speakers and not just the headphones?..

Ditto. The Spectracomp is loaded on mine 100 percent of the time.

Do you not lose some of your bass when you raise the speaker off the floor? I was always told that for the best bass response put the unit on the floor. That's why the 1x15 in my GK rig is always on the bottom with the 4x10s on top of it.

I will try that tonight at practice and see how it sounds.

I put mine on a gramma pad. Works great

one good reason for tilting your cab when in practice/rehearsal would be to put yourself more on-axis with the speaker response.. so that supports the stand idea.

but, yes, you would "apparantly" lose some bass response when you decouple a cab from the floor, but you will(should) also get tighter bass..

An auralex gramma pad is a great investment..i got one for my home theatre sub and it changed volume/mush into solar plexus punch..

Oh I think it's a smart move on GK's part. It's an easy way to component orient your whole rig rather than just single 112 cabs with one head. It's nice having either option.

Looks? I don't know. For me it's about even I guess and altering the grill of an older GK is the least of my concerns. That's an easy fix.

Your rig is very different than mine. That 4x10 cab is up where you can hear it and depending on how you're powering it and EQ'd it may give you more defined mid range in your ears and the room. What works better for me may not be the optimum for you.

I'm just using a 1x15 combo and while I may lose some of the very lowest frequencies I also get it up and away from any reflective wave the floor or crappy plywood stage may create from them. To me the sound is more defined and more focused and most importantly I can hear the subtleties in my playing better.

Yeah, our drummer may complain that he can't "feel" the bass as well but I can and everyone else on stage and in the room can hear it much better. I'm not playing for his benefit alone or at a volume level that engulfs me in nothing but my bass just so he can feel it in the seat of his pants.

That's what subs are for and it's really not a problem in places with a good sound system. An auralex gramma pad can be a good idea too but the drummer will feel even less vibration using one. Those low frequency vibrations are more evident on cheap plywood stages. That's why they're more obvious but you lose as much or more punch from that than any drummer gains.

Anyway his "feel" issue can easily be solved with a powered sub or monitor cabinet anywhere near him that he's comfortable with it. I've always run a separate feed to a powered cabinet for the drummer if he wants it. If that's not enough he can invest in his own sub if that's what he needs to feel "thunder" in his rump. :spit:

Hi, folks. A couple of things

1) I did try putting the BG250 on an amp stand. I put it at the lowest level. Somebody who posted got it right. The sound is more focused and more driving ... but I think it sounds a little harsh, so I don't know. My band, however, did like that it projected better so it's a mixed bag. I will gig this Saturday with it at a place with low ceilings so I will really test it out.

2) I got a comment from TCE tech support about using the Corona Chorus. Basically it said it works well with bass guitars and many bass players use it. Most importantly he said it WILL power two amps, so if somebody wanted to buy a second BG250 that would work, he said.

Remember that free chorus unit is available only until Dec. 31. I am still thinking about adding another BG250 and using the chorus unit to as an a/b box and to use the effects.

Thoughts??
