TC ELECTRONIC BG250

Just checking in to see how people are liking their BG-250's. I've had mine since December but have had little to no gigs to really run it through it's paces. One gig, one really loud rehearsal and one normal rehearsal. Tomorrow another gig - outside this time. Getting it warmed up for tomorrow I realized that my treble knob hardly does anything either [I play a P-bass].

The other thing that I've discovered is that it doesn't play well with the Markbass Super Booster that I just got. The Super Boost works exceptionally well with the Ampeg Micro 2x10 that I used when rehearsing recently. Some great [almost] string bass like sounds and vibe, which is great for some of the acoustic stuff that I do. Any one else find the BG-250 to be a bit finicky when it comes to running pedals?

It'll be interesting to see how it works outside . . .

I use mine one or twice a week and loving it lately.

I bought a Zoom B3 for my main band (no amps/IEM) and found, pretty much by accident, that it works great with the BG250. It seemed counter-intuitive to me that running an amp sim in front of it would sound good, but with the BG250 eq set to noon and the cabinet sim turned off, it sounds awesome.

I've used mine for a couple of small outdoor gigs, and all was good.

So I just took delivery of one of these at AM. Nice little amp IMO. I love the light weight and how loud it can get. But........ I believe I may have the dreaded treble control issue. It does make a difference but very little. And I play with a pick so you would think that I should really notice a difference. I am not sure if I should return it or not since I am not sure if that's the way these amps are or if there really is an issue. Has anyone returned one with this issue and got a new one with a much bigger treble sweep?

I decided to send it back for an exchange. We'll see what the next one has for treble control sweep.

Good luck to you.

I can't say I really followed the "treble control issue" posts very closely, but I got the impression (possibly mistaken) that was largely a perception/expectations matter. I also recall seeing something about passive basses making an already subtle treble control even more so. In your reading, did you find that there was a specific defect with some amps?

Do you have active, passive...both?

Thanks for the input Doc. I have been trying to get a definitive answer as to if there actually is a problem or not. I haven't been able to find out either way. I can tell you this......if this is the way these amps are they could have saved a few cents and left the treble control out completely. I can't believe that a company would actually plan it this way. My opinion is that there is a problem. I have owned a ton of amps and this is the first that has a "subtle" treble control. It's either a treble control or it isn't. Know what I mean? This amp is actually a scratch & dent so I am thinking that it was returned at least once already for this problem. The next one I am getting is brand new. I'll report back on the next one that I get.

BTW: I have a passive bass.

Well, in either case, you have a new unit coming.

I didn't hear the amp you returned, so I don't know, but in terms of your expectations (especially in relation to other experiences), I think it's helpful to understand that the EQ on the BG250, and so the treble control, is not exactly like the treble control on all other amps in that the frequency is not fixed. There is a range and cut applies to lower Hz and boost to higher.

Yup, got that part. But in relation to the difference between all the way clockwise vs. all the way counter-clockwise on the control the difference was barely audible. I think any player who heard this would agree that the treble control was non-functional. But we'll see what the new one offers.

I saw on here where someone was experiencing tweeter rattle as I was. I also saw an ad on the internet where someone had reduced the sale price of their BG250 because of that issue. I fixed that. I shouldn't have to but it was easy.

Thanks a lot for this tip.

I do have this kind of issue too.
I sent it twice for repair to Thomann and it came back twice NOT REPAIRED. Now they're telling me this rattle is normal!

I'll have to escalate to ask for a replacement and join proofs of this defect... (I already joined a video and score and instructions to reproduce it).

I may go for fixing it by myself too.

Thanks again.
Pat.

I got my replacement a short while ago. The treble control is the same on this one. I am chalking it up to "that's the way it is". After turning the mid and bass all the way down you can hear the difference the treble control makes. I guess I was just expecting it to perform like every other amp that I have had but with the way they use the frequency cut and boost it is what it is. Just a different critter I guess. The one benefit is that I got a brand new amp for the price of a scratch 'n dent.

That being said this is not the best sounding amp that I have had but man does it get loud!! I could see this easily handling a medium sized venue with a couple of loud guitars and a drummer. And super light weight. It will definitely suffice as my last piece of gear to carry me through my retirement years. Something to play at home and handle any "get togethers" with my musician buddies.

You might already know about new TC BG250.
There seems like 4 versions, 115, 112, 210, 208.
First 3 seem to be the same size and 208 seems smaller.
First 3 have new 2 tone-print control and 208 have only 1 tone-print.
Over-drive knob is gone.
I wonder how it sounds.

I bought the BG250-115 about 3 weeks ago as a backup amp to use at home while my main rig stayed at rehearsal. It seemed OK and the toneprint worked fine...However, when i powered it up a few days ago, I had a very distinct hi freq hum...even with all the vol pots for my J bass zeroed. I assumed it must be a bad solder joint on my PUPs as I replaced them 6 months ago and the weather here in NY had been cold and the bass was in my car for a few hrs last week. But it turned out to be the amp. I went to my buddies home and we plugged in my bass to his rig...dead quiet! Checked out the bass again on my way home at the local GC...dead quiet. So I sent the unit back and am looking for another SS to replace it with at home...I see from the forum others have had these electrical gremlins (I just sent back a TC fx pedal that was afflicted with the same issues...poor sound odd pops)...

ANYWAY I have a very nice custom black cover for the amp that i do not need...Anyone interested?? send me an email and I will sell it to you..in perfect condition and a really solid cover.

Thanks
