tc electronic bh250 - new micro head!

Recently got the BH250. I'm a little confused about downloading toneprints. The manual states that the Chorus effect is standard with the 250. If I download the Compressor, does that delete the Chorus effect ? I'm assuming that the BH250 can only utilize one effect at a time, or am I missing something ? I don't see how you would jog between effects, as there does'nt seem to be any way to do that. Man, the manual sucks. Still not sure about how the EQ works either. How do you know what freq you are dialing in ? :hmm:

Ok, so with the Chorus effect already downloaded, when I download the Compressor, that's the effect I will now have, unless I get the footswitch, or is the Chorus still the only effect I will have ? Is there a way to delete the Chorus, then download the Compressor ? Also, still trying to understand how the eq works, and how to dial in different freqs.

The last effect you beamed into the amp is the one that will be there. You don't need to delete the chorus to use something else.

As far as the EQ, the frequencies are not exactly fixed, but they are also not adjustable. Think of it as a three band, fixed EQ, and just play with the knobs till you find what you like. I say not fixed, because each knob cuts at one freq, but boosts at another. I like the baked in tone of the head, and it seems fairly powerful. Great little backup, though I do have a few gigs on mine, too.

thanks. So, when all the EQ knobs are at noon, what freq am I getting ? When you say " negative ", does that mean to the left , and that is always a cut, until you get to the other side of noon, which would be positive, then it gets to a boost of a different frequency ? For example, on the bass control, anything to the left of noon is a cut a 80hz, and anything to the right of noon is a boost at 100 hz ?

Hi, just picked up a beautiful used BH250. Tried it in reherasal for the first time last night and so far thumbs up. I have many thoughts but will spend more time to see if my initial reactions bear out. I plan to use it live this Friday and hopefully do a side by side comparison with my GK MB200. I'll post some thoughts after that.

Quick question. Is the PRE output at the XLR (to feed the PA) a fixed output or affected by the master level? If fixed how hot a signal is sent?

Got another one for you. I have two BH250 heads, set up identically. However, when I plug the Switch 3 into amp one, #1 is Chorus, #2 is SpectraComp and #3 is mute. However, with amp 2 it's the exact reverse. Since there is not polarity option does anyone know why this might be?

Are you sure you had pushed the same switch button BEFORE sending the toneprints to the amp? Maybe you did it in reverse? Press button one on the footswitch, send the chorus to it, press button 2, send the comp to it, then do the same on the 2nd BH...should be exactly the same. It took me some trial and error to get the 2 toneprints in the right spot. It's not necessariy the "last 2" if the switch is plugged in when you send the toneprints. You have to select the channel first. Just a thought.

I did not do the select button first method. That will be next. I assumed that mute would have a default position. But perhaps not.

I did make sure all cords were fully plugged in and used a couple different cords with identical results.

I picked mine up in January and paired it with a Hartke 12"+H:

I found it to be pretty nice sounding and easy to dial in to the room using the 3 EQ knobs and those on my P-Lyte. It would be nice to have quick access to new toneprints between songs, but I don't alter my tone much during the show I used it for Saturday. I only used a slappy compression setting and occasionally my vibrato foot pedal.

Having a rig I can carry in one trip from car to stage is nice...the whole package weighs far less than the Trace Elliot rigs I've been using since the mid-1990s. I still love the sound of my Trace BLX-150 plus the Hartke, but this new kit is more practical.

I have that identical rig now. Bh250 and HX112. It's powerful. get the footswitch and you'll have immediate access to 2 toneprints, so that's nice. I have the spectracomp in one, which really, really opens this amp up greatly, and either a chorus or overdrive on #2. Leave it on one most of the time. With the HX112 in 4 ohm mode, and the spectracomp turned up about 9:00, this thing really flys.

UPS delivered my BH250 yesterday! I picked one up on Ebay at a great price! Haven't had much time to play around with it but from the few minutes I have spent with the BH250 I'm really liking it. Going to use it at my gig this coming Friday to give it a full run through.
