TC Electronic RH450 Favorite Settings © Thread

Thinking of getting one to try in about a week - just a question on settings for pairing with an Eden 210XST.
Anyone try this for a good bottom end with "slap" settings and fingerstyle?
If so what were your settings for both?
Playing through a Sadowsky MS4 - with slight bass boost and treble off (pickups set balanced)
 
Hoping to revive this thread a lil, are you guys using other compressors with your RH450? or sticking with the stock one?

Last night move my EBS Multicomp as the first pedal in my chain and lowered my spectracomp down to about 4 clicks and my tone/sound completely changed (in a good way). Or do you find the spectracomp to handle most of the compression requirements in your playing?

Also are most of you guys using tubetone? With this new pedal arrangement I actually get some decent bite/overdriven sounds from this head by just setting the tubetone at around 2-4, its just a subtle effect. Are any of you cranking it up?

Lastly, if I hit the shift button what does the tubetone knob do? Does that manage the gains in the power section of the amp?

I use the stock compressor and it works brilliantly for me. Its the first onboard compressor Ive used that I like.

I use the Tubetone between 0 or 6 clicks, depending on what bass im using and the band. I agree....the sweetspot is about 4 clicks if you want a slightly growly bite. Again, a nice addition!

You are correct on the tubetone being the volume so that you can have different volume levels before the master for each preset. Great for when you are changing between basses.

Can anyone explain the logic of setting the lowest bass eq frequency at 71hz? Doesn't that seem a bit high? One thing I liked about my LMII is that the low eq was set at 40hz so if I'm on a particularly boomy stage I can cut the 40hz and all is well. How would one go about doing the same thing with this amp? Love the amp, I'm probably just not understanding something.

Hit the shift button..now turn the "low" knob all the way counter cockwise....hit shift again....Now you have lowered the center frequency for the lows....boost or cut to suit!

OOPS! I guess 70hz is as low as it goes!

You're talking about the 3dB point for the filter, which is 71Hz. There is still plenty of EQ happening below that frequency, just not as much of an effect. But it's still there.

It makes little sense to have the low EQ go down to, say, 40Hz, because having it still be effective down at 15Hz would be a waste.

Remember that almost all of your bass is second harmonic on the low notes, which puts most of the low E up at 82.4Hz.

The mids are 2 octave range center points, but bass as treble are shelved, so I believe with the bass, all frequencies below the set point would be cut/boosted equally.

So if I understand this correctly 71hz is boost 3db more than all the other frequencies below it, BUT the other low frequencies are present... just not as apparent. Is that right?

If you can think graphically, the 71hz is the point where the response curve starts to fall off more than 3db from zero (and going downhill to the left as freq is decreasing). As you turn the knob counterclockwise from 12 o'clock you are increasing the amount of 71hz and freqs below it and a little above it also drops. The amount that the adjacent freqs are affected by the knob is a function of the "Q", and I forget exactly how wide the Q is on the RH450. Hope this helps. At least this is the way I understand it to work.

I know where the mid point frequency settings are but I think i read somewhere that the Staccato comes with boost & cut already dialled in as well?

Just thought I'd like to hear approximately what the Staccato sounds like through my cabs :)

There is lots of discussion about this, even with soundclips, in the LDS club thread. If you google for it you can still read it, but you can't post in it as it has been shutdown by a moderator.

::::BASSIST:::: is right, but the short version is, you can only get most of the way there. The RH450 has a low pass filter that chops off pretty much everything above 5K, whereas the S51 doesn't. So, you could get fairly close on the low end by boosting the crap out of the bass and sucking out all the low/high mids, and boosting the highest frequency you can.

I can't remember what you have to do with tubetone and spectracomp to get those to be somewhat comparable, but even if you don't mess too much with those, the bulk of it's tone is that ultra scooped sound.
