I know this is an old thread, but had a real shocking experience today in that it was not i expected!
needed to share and compelled me to become a member of this great forum i always keep an eye on!
Been gigging around for years with a h'n'k bk300 and will never get rid - has never let me down and i love it, always get great comments about my sounds, but i feel recently lacks the headroom required in larger rooms with no large pa support. So i did some research!
Have always been drawn to ashdown abm amps and played a few, but had never heard of tc electronic bass amps, only effects and studio stuff, until 2 weeks ago.
So...., went to a shop near london to try both the rh450 and bh500 with a comparison between the bc and rs cab range. I really wanted to be walking out of there with the rh450 and a rs210 and 212 set, but only had bc and rh410s in, but wow!! I think i have fallen in love!!!
To the point, they do seem to make great gear for the price, and i am likely to purchase very shortly as i was hugely impressed, but not the rh???? I am so confused!
I combined both heads and both cabs, and even found a bc212 for good measure, and loved the clarity of tone in the rs range with adjustable tweeter control on the back of the cab. Kept switching cab and tops and was getting lost with which one i was using, and thought i am going to buy this beast as it sounds so much better than the bh...... It was the bh i was playing
I think the extra fuctionality on the rh450 is very good and rate the semi parametric eq, the inclusion of an fx loop ect, but the fixed centres on bh500 make it a force to reckon with!! I also tested at volume and the bh seemed to hold its tone much better as i increased the volume with the rs410. My experience with th rh450 was that you can dial in any tone, but found that with increase in volume came some mid drive accompanied with a lack of transparency and clarity that was achieved below master set to 5.
I was convinced there must be something wrong with it in the power stage or something as everyone seems to rate the rh450 very highly, but felt that the bh had the edge at volume?
Has anyone else experienced this, as i still want to love the rh450 for its extra functionality, i am convinced i must have been doing something wrong. We are talking smallish margins here, and is always very much down to personal taste too, but please let me know your thoughts as i would much appreciate some user experiences from people who have used both of these heads. Could it be a sub quality head?

I've been gigging theTC gear for almost 4 yrs now, with no problems or regrets.
and if you do have PA support and are running through a PA via the di it bi passes the active power management so it won't change out the front.
