TC Electronic RH750 ???!??

As a former SM900 user and TC owner, something is starting to sound a bit strange with your take on these amps:hmm:

Like what?? I gave the TC RH amps not one, but FOUR opportunities. Tried many cabs with them including the TC cabs. As I stated before, I can not recall an amp with so much hype(a lot of it from you) that fell so short of expectations. If the power was what was advertised I probably would still have one. The amp was UNDERPOWERED!!! The tests prove it!!

I again did not experience this underpowered thing at all, and it virtually never came up prior to the BG review.

I also hate the term 'hype'. If you are talking about much excitement due to a truly innovative new product, with a feature set many of us had never seen, and performance that many of us were pretty excited about, then I would not call that hype.

I do and continue to recommend the amp to those who have a certain tone goal, and again, have seen VERY little disappointment in the performance of the amp posted in the two years or so, and literally hundreds of TB users.

Not sure why you would have continued to buy various versions of the amp if you didn't dig it, but I've done some dumb things with gear also.

Because as you know more than anybody that amps match up differently with different cabs. When I bought or was trying out a new cab I gave the RH a shot based on the "hype". Everytime it fell short of expectations. Sorry, but that's my experience and opinion with the RH amps.

Wow. Definitely not the typical TC RH experience from my experiences and the vast majority of posts I've read prior to the review publication. Really sorry it didn't work out for you, but hey, other amp makers need customers too, right? :)

I say if you have managed to find something you dig, and it's in your price range, "you win". So no worries.

Actually, I went back to what worked for me 20 years ago, an SM400 with a McCauley loaded Energy cabinet(I also tried the RH750 with this cab and it was not good). This was the original SWR rig introduced at NAMM in 1985(?) and I get more compliments on this rig than anything else I've used in some time.

+1, and again, if you didn't dig it you didn't dig it. I totally get and respect that.

Also, per your other post above, I can't think of two amps more different than the RH450 and the SM400 (used to have one of those too)... with the RH450 being very mid warm, very attenuated up top, etc., and the SM400 being about as wide and sizzly as can be (I guess a bit closer to the Staccato, but still much more deep low end extended).

That makes much sense. The only way I could stand using the SM400 was with a hi pass filter that took everything out below about 35hz. However, I've always been one who likes the mids, and more upper bass punch than full on fundamental, so +1 different strokes!

Sorry for getting a bit snippy with you. I again don't associate the voicing of the RH450 with its power module, since it sounds pretty much the same through a very wide range of volumes, from very low to very high. However, I cannot argue at all that if you like the SM400, the RH450 is the totally wrong amp for you.

With any other cab I totally agree, but with McCauley/Energy the SM400 is a totally different animal and produces the mids perfect to my ear. I run the amp completely flat. Again amp/cab matchup.

I remember those! I never owned one, I was kinda' in the GK camp back in those days, but I definitely liked their tone, and I can certainly see how someone who liked that sound wouldn't be a good fit for the RH.

Funny how sometimes the grass really isn't greener after all, huh? It's really a good thing, but still hard not to feel disappointed, I guess. Unrequited GAS? LOL!! :)

(yes, this is me coining a new term, but I won't ask royalties if someone wants to use it.) ;) :D

I actually like the sound of the RH with some cabs in my house, it was when I gigged it that it fell totally short.

What apology and where?

Also, I know it's kinda' "fun" to hate TC right now, but let's be reasonable. Even though they haven't done anything with published specs, at least they have openly and honestly acknowledged the test findings when asked. I know that's not enough for some people here, but it is significant, especially knowing how negatively some people would feel about it.
I meant the apology thing as a generality. Me personally, I'm very decidedly one the side of TC, as all products I have owned by them have been among the best in the field and would like to read more about these great amps from people playing them than from people feeling insulted by a giant corporation.

Yeah, there used to be quite a bit of support for the RH450 until everyone found out she wasn't a virgin like she'd said. Unfortunately, although she has been faithful from the start, the fact that she hid that sordid detail has people now wanting to burn her at the stake.

If she's a good wife, leave her be, and by all accounts, the RH450 has proven to be reliable, faithful and productive. :)

Sorry if you posted this before, but were you using a lot of EQ on the RH at the gigs?

I tried everything!! I gave the RH every opportunity to work for me I could think of. As stated, it has a lot of features and could be a real workhorse.....if it had the power. I'm used to a lot of power, not for loudness like most people would equate to, but for presence and definition. Now that I know the truth about the RH amps it was definitely the power that was not getting the job done for me.

Hype - Extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion.

+1 That term doesn't really fit the excitement generated by a truly new product, like the amazing LMII when it came out (setting a new standard for price/performance), the Acme cabs when they came out (very different voicing and design approach), and IMO the RH450... a feature set that was truly unique, and a tone that was also different than most other amps out there.

True excitement and joy in a product's performance by a LOT of users does not really reach the definition of hype to me, but whatever.

One thing about TB, if a product doesn't live up to its billing, it will get hammered pretty quickly. Classic case was the Genz Shuttle 6. A few endorsees started to rave about it (e.g., describing it as the 'first micro with real balls, etc.). Almost immediately, there were many posts of 'wha???'. That didn't happen with the RH450 over a period of years! Great amp IMO!
