TC MojoMojo - bargain for bass

I just picked one of these up and it’s great on bass. It doesn’t get much mention around here so just spreading the word.

Very warm, dark and tubey. No low end loss, in fact it retains low end better than most of my specialist bass overdrives. TC say the voltage is boosted internally for increased headroom too. If you were ever looking at the likes of the SFT, Tonehammer, Blueberry, Beta, BB Preamp, Grizzly, etc - give one of these a whirl, they are ridiculously cheap too (£40 new over here)!

I’ve heard a select few sing it’s praises here before. It’s a bit of a sleeper for sure. But I do know some who know it, love it and recommend it. I thought it was pretty cool when I tried it.

Completely transparent. It doesn’t change the tone at all, but just adds a little sizzle.

It also stacks very well with other ODs if you want to go completely over the top.

I would describe the tone as "big and round." Not muddy at all, but not as defined as some other ODs. Just a fat, warm, pleasing sound.

I love mine. Bass, guitars, synths, it is nice on all of them. Probably the best $50 I've ever spent on a new pedal.

Love mine. Bought it because I double on guitar. Input sensitivity and warmth means you can be really subtle with it as well as over the top. The price raises questions about more expensive models too.

I think I'm gonna grab one next week since they're so cheap. Hey @dannybuoy , what's it voiced like? Is it really it's own thing or can you attribute it to any other drive pedal? It's been a while since I played one and I didn't play it that long.

Closest relatives I guess would be the Tonehammer, SFT or Beta. I would say it combines the big low end heft of the Beta with the creamier sounding drive of the Tonehammer. I was using a Beta at low gain as a fat dirty boost, but now the TC is in its place, gain between off and 9 o'clock.

Will this pedal breakup on the E string even with the gain knob all the way down?

It seems like this kinda picks up around just the edge of 'dirty' where the full size Spark leaves off and then carries all the way to low-level fuzz. Accurate?

Yeah, it does have mild breakup at minimum gain unless you’re playing lightly. Sounds about accurate, it can get pretty fuzzy when you crank it.

So many great affordable choices these days, I was close to picking one up until I did a side by side with the Hardwire CM2 Tube Overdrive that I already had and found them very close.

I just got one of these and so far it seems to be exactly what i was looking for a while ago. By that i mean its the sound i had in my head until recently. Saying that, its still closer than ive got with anything else so far (not that I’m a fussy OD/dirt user).
I love how its close to my tone going through a hot tube head, rather than changing the tone in the process. I love my Aftershock but although i can get thre efffect i want, it seems to also change the tone a bit more than i care for. I’m sure its just a case of re progaming it but there is a lot in there to tweak. I love the simplicity of the MM. No menus or hidden features.
Ive got a rehearsal tonight and ive taken my Aftershock off my board to make room for this box.
I also thought it funny to read how low the power draw is. I don’t think ive got one that low, even my other analog pedals want more.
Very good bargain. If it doesn’t works out on my bass board ill use it for guitar. Battery run is another bonus.

Yeh, I've had both. Could never get anything usable from the Bass Soul Food. But loved the MojoMojo. I found it easy to get a nice usable tone.

Thanks. When I heard the Mojo on bass demo on YouTube it reminded me of the Sansamp BDDI drive knob -like a warm tube sound. I really like that kind of overdrive.

Warm and fat and the bass and treble controls keeps the low end.

$50 is a no brainer IMO.

The Voice switch work very well as bassists. I keep mine in the up position, because I use it as a gritty boost, but the flipping it down gives a nice warm low frequency bump.
