Thinking about picking up Mojomojo as a next level OD after my Spark(which is an absolute gem!). Does anyone have both of them to compare?

TC MojoMojo - bargain for bass

I have both - they pair very well together!
The MojoMojo pretty much takes off from where the Sparks ends; there's some crossover in the available gain - I'd say the MojoMojo at lowest drive starts at a similar level of drive to just after noon on the Gain dial of the Spark. The MojoMojo is more 'voiced' than the Spark, though very definitely still within the realms of "transparent", adding some general warmth and fatness to things it's not bright by nature and doesn't have the 'shimmer' or 'sparkle' the Spark can lend to the top end (though this is more a nuance rather than "baked-in-tone"). The EQ is similarly flexible like the Spark, and so can make things edgier and brighter, or huge and wooly if/when needed.
I like the Spark as an always on drive, and in that scenario run the MojoMojo before it which makes for a wonderful pairing. Though the Spark also works really well pushing the MojoMojo into more distortion: try boosting the treble a fair bit on the Spark and hitting the MojoMojo for some real bite.
Well, after reading your reply I went ahead and ordered one! I was looking at Mojo for years, but I haven't been playing in a band setting for almost 1.5 years due to personal issues, so I didn't really need it. Now I'm back and looking to finish my pedalboard with a few additions!
Just broke down and bought one. Used the GC 20% code. Had to pay tax, but still pretty durn cheap. If all goes as planned this should work for both bass and guitar. Fingers crossed.
I use it on bass, both as a boost and a drive.
Paul Gilbert uses it on guitar. He’s pretty good...!

OK first impressions. Bad for guitar. Good for bass.
If I were only getting it for guitar I would send it back. Way too dark and poor articulation. Just couldn't get a good sound out of it. It was like throwing a wet blanket over my amp. Yuck. I will spend some more time with it. But in general, NOT impressed. I used it with a tele through a marshall combo. And it was still too dark and spongy.
Now, bass, OTOH.... Not bad at all. Got a nice grind at low to moderate gain. Was a little too farty at higher gain settings. Generally adds a little compression, and a tad of midrange I otherwise can't seem to dial in without it. Nice.

With your guitar, play with the Voice toggle. Up cuts the lows, and cleans up the signal on my semi hollow guitar.

i have one that i dig with my basses and our guitarist has one that he likes for his guitars (and the rest of the band likes it too).
I didn't notice a big difference with the tone switch with guitar. On bass it was a tad more noticeable, in a good way. I'm keeping it, so I will spend some more time with it with guitar to see if I can get a usable sound. Muddy would be the best word I could use to describe my first impression with guitar. My cheapo modified Caline White Heat pedal sounds waaaaaay better with the tele and Marshall. I even tried stacking them. Not bad, but not that great, either. I just kept going back to my Caline.
But I digress... This is a bass forum. And the mojomojo for the bass so far is a win.

I like the mojo by itself for some tubey goodness, but lately I've been playing around with some crazy overdrive/distortion (without getting too fizzy). One of my latest lineups is a hardwire TL2 into a mojomojo into a DrJ sparrow ( sansamp type clone, but not exactly which is why I like it ). Overdrive the mojo with the TL2 and then back off the treble on the sparrow, but dial in some slight drive and harmonics (like the presence knob on a sansamp). My inner metalhead is liking it..... If I had a compressor I would add it in front of the mojo to better control how it is overdriven, but only compressor I have would be from a zoom multi ( which I may have to try anyway.... ). Okay, I am rambling.... Mojo is a keeper!
I was looking for subtle drive. Thanks for resurrecting this thread!
The TC Spark Booster sounds pretty similar btw. I'd go for the Mojomojo if you're after a blues/Motown kind of sound, and the Spark for a brighter more transparent version of the same sound.
It looks like the MojoMojo doesn't have a battery compartment. Is that correct?
After reading this thread, I'm tempted to get two! One for light overdrive and one for heavier distortion. The Spark + MojoMojo is another option and would cover a wider range, but is a bit more cash. Anyone else tried using two of these?
