TC MojoMojo - bargain for bass

This is a great pedal for the price.
I've sold my big muff deluxe because the mojo mojo can get nearly as fuzzy but with a warmer sounding distortion that I prefer while still being able to keep the natural bass tone and sound like one instrument playing (I found blending the clean/distortion tone on the big muff and some other distortion pedals with blend sounds too much like two separate instruments playing at the same time). The mojo mojo doesn't destroy the bass tone but does lose a little bit low end thump with distortion turned up, I mostly use it dialed down for a nice subtle blues type warm sounding overdrive which retains most of the natural bass tone and thump.
It also works really well with an Aguilar Octamizer and/or MXR M82 before it.
There's no hiss or background noise and it hardly changes the sound at all with the Drive at zero so it can also be used as a volume boost and for tone adjustments. Only downside is an audible click when disengaging.
Can anyone tell any difference with the voice switch though? I'm not sure it actually does anything and it seems a few others can't either because the guide leaflet says 'true natural overdrive (up) or a juicy tone that backs off the bass a little (down)' but various reviews contradict that, sustain punch says 'Down position – Low-end frequencies are naturally boosted' and a professional youtube review says 'up position brightens your high mids'.

The manual I read said up is flat and down is boosted bass, but I think they got that the wrong way round.
Up boosts the bass as far as I can tell, before the clipping circuit I reckon as distortion increases slightly with it up. I prefer to keep it down and just boost the bass EQ just a tad.

Nice work, yeah now I've checked more closely: 'up' with drive set to just about noticeable distortion then click to 'down' and the distortion doesn't quite kick in.... it's definitely subtle.
Maybe it does something cool like rolling off the really low lows, enabling you to crank the "Bass" knob without things getting out of control?
I might do some more testing. I can't believe they'd add a switch that does barely anything!

anyone know if its a digital or analog pedal? I know sound is what matters but i'm always a little leery of digital distortion units. TC has a bunch of pedals in the same format, woudn't be too surprising that they were all identical inside but with different programming. Then again this one doesn't have a USB port, so i might be wrong...

I'm guessing it's because TC electronic use the same casing for loads of their pedals so they need to keep the switch or there would be a hole in the casing. It's be nice if the switch did a bit more, perhaps really roll-off the bass, or change the overdrive tone to what other pedals call things like 'grunt' or 'growl'.....those pedals do cost about 4x as much though. Like you say, no big deal- it doesn't change the fact that the Mojo is still a good pedal, especially for the price.
From singing it's praises just last week I've now returned it.....fickle!
Personally, after a week of using it in different situations I realised I prefer OD that has similar tone to the Mojo but with distortion that's less synthy/raspy/low grain (I'm looking for a more natural tube driven type OD tone with higher grained distortion if that makes sense?!)....it's hard to put in words but the Mojo wasn't quite what I'm looking for. I'm picky though and it's just down to personal taste and how it worked with my setup, doesn't stop it from being a good pedal.

I like the MojoMojo, but I think I'm kind of with you. "Synthy/raspy/low grain" does kind of describe it a bit--not that that's a bad thing. I'm considering replacing it with a clean boost/OD. I'm leaning towards the EHX Bass Soul Food (not the regular, guitar Soul Food), but the TCE Spark is also an option. I haven't tried either of those.

Just bought this for $48 (q - whats cheaper, buying new for $48 with free shipping or used for $40 +$15 shipping?) - it is def one of the better bass dist pedals i've played with, and hits way above its price. doesn't mess with low end afaict and does have a "dark" character that plays really well with bass. Works great with synths too - playing thru a
bass --> Dubterrenea --> MojoMojo --> Xerograph Delux --> amp
sounded really nice.
may not work with every situation but def has a very usable sound, i didn't miss a Mix/Blend knob at all. Stacks well with other fuzz/dist pedals. Def recommended, esp for the price!

The Spark is VERY similar - a bit more flexible and less inherently dark, but I can dial it in to 90% the same as the MojoMojo.
I hated the BSF but it does have its fans. It adds a bright, brash, rough sounding midrange-focussed drive to your clean tone. A very different sound, but I'd say a P with fingers and flats would suit the MojoMojo and a P with pick and rounds would suit the BSF. Depends if you want Motown or Punk!
I'm considering the one control Silver Peg, it doesn't look like it'd go much into distortion or fuzz territory but can do some nice overdrive.
