TC RH450 Club

I'm (finally!) in. :hyper:
...actually,it's the Combo450 consisting of a RebelHead 450 amp and a RS210C cab.Another cab,the RS112 is on the way (ordered it.I'm expecting getting it in a few days).
To all TC'ers out there, best regards from Croatia!

Still waiting on my knobs for some reason but I finally just went to the main website. Should be on the way now!

Well, I have sadly joined the ranks of the loose knob brigade.

I'm in year 5 as an RH user, and I have never had a hint of trouble with my RH450 or RH750.

Last night at rehearsal (all IEM - I usually use my B3), I had left home without my pedal board. No biggie, I grabbed my RH750 and went about setting up. There's a thigh-high counter/surface directly behind me, so I put the RH on that. There's a small lip on the front of it, and I propped front edge of the RH on that so I could see the turner display a little more easily. At some point while we were playing, the RH apparently slipped back off of the lip and fell a jaw-dropping half inch or so. When we were packing up, and I realized that the knobs were resting on the lip instead of the bottom of the amp, I thought to myself "Dammit, I bet that tiny drop was enough to do it." I started tugging on knobs and sure enough, they're all loose. I pulled a few off, and one of the fins, or tangs, or whatever they're called was bent or broken in each knob.

I believe I know now why some people have problems with the knobs and some don't. I don't think some knobs just start falling off for no reason. I think they're fine as long as they don't suffer an amount of stress/shock that is way below what they should be able to handle. The injury wouldn't have to be something noticed or something anyone would think would ruin a knob...a reason but not a good reason.

A drop of less than half of an inch, of just the front of the amp, shared by all of the knobs equally would be less than a pound each.

I'm kicking myself for forgetting the B3, for not using the Sansamp in the rack, for putting the front of the RH on that lip...damn, damn, damn, damn!

There has never been a problem with my knobs before, but now I know that all along, they shared the same flaw as the others; that the design/construction is patently insufficient for real-world possibilities...which my amps have simply been lucky enough to have never been through...until last night. Sigh

Just received my set of replacement knobs and the difference in the (I'm going to call them) "friction fins" is obvious. The old ones went up to a point that was as thin a paper...possibly and exaggeration, but going to a "point" means they're pretty thin. In the new knobs, they're wider and rounded at the top. I'd say zero chance of the same conditions causing them to break/bend. You can't bend a hump.

Hi RH users,

Are you gigging with a dedicated DI box or are you using the DI integrated in your RebelHead?

Could be comparable to the DI boxes on the market (in the range of JDI, Countryman 85...) ?

Can I go right with the RebelHead DI or would you recommend to buy a dedicated DI box.

Again, thanks for your inputs explaining your experiences.

I gig a lot and use the DI off the back if i can't get them to Mic my cabs. Its a great DI set on post. Sound amazing.

I always use the built in DI on the head. Sounds great and sound techs love it

I use the RH's DI. I don't necessarily have the depth and breadth of experience that some here have, but I've never had a problem with it. Sound guys always seem pleased. I even had one remark "Cool!" when I put it on my cabinet. He said "These are great!" I guess they run into all kinds of circumstances.

I've read a number of comments on it from players with deeper experience (i.e., enough to make comparative comments), and I've always seen the RH's DI held in high regard; as very good or excellent, as far as DI's go.

TC Electronics always had world class effects and studio equipment before they went into the bass sound equipment business so their DI outs are great. My rig is always run out of the RH and almost always post EQ due to the presets and linking them up to different basses if I'm using 2 electrics or adding an upright or my NS CR-4 EUB.

ITS THAT GOOD.

Thanks for sharing bro's.

My experience have been the following. I have never received complains, and neither compliments. Only once, a tech guy said "TCElectronic stuff, good".

It is good to know by others experiences how good or bad your own stuff can be.

In that case, for the things you shared I am getting confident about the DI subject.

Thanks!

So why is it that my bc212's don't sound as good as my old hartke vx215? The bc's sound almost dead and muffled comparatively speaking.

Never heard a BC212, but since you're posting on this thread, can I assume this is with an RH?

And if that is the case, are you talking about moving it from one cabinet to the other without making any adjustments?

There's a lot of change to the sound to be made by going into the mid-point setup.

I messed with the eq enough to get frustrated and move on. I have 2 of my presets i use just for those cabs. Could not get a good "clean tone". My old Hartke sounds great with almost any equipment setting.

So I just ordered a RH450 and two RS 210 cabs. I'm to playing a larger rig. Do you think I will have any problem with stage volume in a rock/hard rock environment?

Also, do I need a special bridge cable to run 4 Ohm bridged with this head?

You shouldn't have any issues. I have an RH450, 2 RS212 cabs and barely make it to 4. Also no special cables needed.
