TC RH750 part II

Hey guys Im thinking of getting a RH750 again. I was gonna get one a while back but things came up.

So I used to have a BG500210. I loved that thing. The only reason I got rid of it was because it was heavy and at high volumes it squished the Low end.
Im wondering if the RH750 does the same thing. Its not really a tone issue, its more or less a really strong compression. My thought was it was just running out of steam so thats how the amp handled it.

Mind you this was with the amp pretty much maxed out.

Thoughts?

If I may revitalize this thread...
I got a pretty fantastic deal on an new RH750 with free RC4 foot switch to boot. It should arrive on Tues. Went back and forth between a couple candidates but decided this after a lot of research that this is the head I wanted to try.

I'm wondering if any RH750 owners use or have used a high pass filter (e.g. microThumpinator or Fdeck HPF-Pre) with this head and electric bass. Based on some of the graphics I've seen I'm optimistic that the RH might drop the ultra-low subsonic frequencies and might not benefit from an HPF. I'll experiment once it arrives but thought I'd check for first hand experience in the meantime.

IME with this head, you won't need one at all.

Since there still seems to be some life in this thread, I'd like to solicit some opinions on a set up I haven't seen discussed yet.

My beloved 1990 Eden Traveller head finally gave it up :crying: and I have found myself back on the amp hunt. I bought a Markbass Jeff Berlin combo a week or so ago, and it sounds pretty great right off the bat. It's warm, punchy, full, even and balanced even flat, and the VPF filter makes it easy to dial up a good tone with a little bit of it. But I think I'm gonna miss some of the flexibility of a modular set up going forward as that's what I'm used to for decades. If I keep I'll, I'll likely add the matching 15" cab to it.

I've read myself dizzy here going over the TCE RH450 and RH750 threads and am intrigued enough to order an RH750, RS210 and an RS112 today. I was set on the RH450 but this thread has convinced me to opt for the 750 for more headroom and added top end flexibility with the TweeterTone. Not sure I'll need it, but we'll see. No one in the Northern California region stocks these, though many can order them. So I have yet actually to play any of the TC stuff. I have a couple of weeks yet to return the Berlin if I decide to after demoing the TC system. I traded in my Aggie GS112s and a Carvin BX500 toward it if that's relevant. That system could sound really good, but the Aggie scooped thing wasn't really my preference, and Carvin head was loud enough but somehow not as thick sounding to me as the Eden. I loved the thick and articulate punch of the Eden. I'm not into a super hyped top end a la Marcus Miller, but I guess my broad preference is for more traditional Fender P and J and MM Stingray tones.

My idea is to road test the the 750 with the RS210 and RS112 together and maybe add another RS112 if it seems needed. This would give me a lot of options to bring with the RH750 for any gig: the 210 alone or with 1 or 2 of the 112s, or just 1 or 2 of the 112s alone. I play a fair amount of midsize clubs and larger outdoor events, always with PA support. I thought this set up might add a bit more flexibility than just the 210 + 212 cabs stacked. Can you guys check my reasoning here and offer your experience/advice? The pieces are on order through Guitar Center and will be trickling in between now and early Sept, so not sure when I'll have the whole thing together to play. I dont make many large purchases through GC, but not having heard the gear myself I needed to have the 30 day return option.

Thanks in advance!
Paul

Maybe you should look at a 210 + 410?

The cabs are not light. They would benefit from Neos.

Plenty of power in the RH750 but the knobs fall off! Get a well padded hard case for it if you're going to gig it.

It has a great built-in tuner but you can't see it when it is mounted on a 210 and you are standing next to it. The amp case blocks the view. No problem if its on a double stack.

I read myself dizzy as well, also looking for a replacement to my Eden Traveler WT400. I bit the bullet and ordered the RH750 which arrived Tuesday. I finally unpacked it last night (2 days later) but still haven't had a chance to plug it in or try it out. I'm still trying to figure out a cab choice for it. My current tentative choice is a 2x12 or possibly a 1212/6 from LDS. Too many choices! :D

Thumpinator won't have anything to filter out on the rh heads!
That seems to be the consensus, and I sort of get the sense that the consensus sees that as a negative. But perhaps I can recoup some of the costs.

An interesting thing is that I've read the HPF on these heads is built into the power section, meaning the DI has the full-frequency signal.

I've got an RH750 and love it--whether it's the HPF, APM, or whatever, it's got great speaker control and gets incredibly loud, along with the best onboard compressor I've ever heard. The knobs are a weak spot though--I got replacement knobs through TC's customer service website. Be proactive and get some new ones early.

I play a RS212 + RS210 stack and have been very pleased. Just picked up another RS210 used to see if I like two RS210's instead or maybe all three for big outdoor gigs.

I started my TCE life with an RH450, RS210 and RS212.
I've now, some 3 years later, settled on a 750 and 2 x RS210's.
Rehearsal and medium pubs (up to 200), I use one cab, vol max at around 10 o'clock. Sound guys are in dis-belief and try to compare what they hear to what they see.
Big pubs, both cabs, vol max at 11 o'clock.
I did a 500 person gig earlier this year and borrowed a third 210, just in case. THUD! But was really un-necessary.
IMHO.

I have a 750 and a pair of 212's, but I only ever use one cab. I did use two stacked on a big stage once, but didn't really need the second cab. I built a little wedge to angle the single cab up to hear it better so seeing the display is no problem for me. I get the "disbelief" response from folks in general - it's a pretty big sound for such a small rig.
On the gig I used two cabs back-line was provided with a choice of an SVT with the fridge or a Trace with a 410. Big festival. I fired up the TC rig and all the stage techs immediately wanted to know what it was as it just sounded better than the rigs provided.
Summer gigs I can show up in a two-seater sports car with a decent rig....just can't beat that!

Hello All. Longtime listener, first time caller (FNG basically!) I've been doing the TC research for a few weeks and I'm ready to take a leap of faith on an rh750 (no options to test out in any stores around me unfortunately.) Debating cab options. I've narrowed it down to either the RS212 or 2 x RS112. It's two 12's any way you slice it though. I prefer a thicker, warmer bass sound over a punchy mid-range setup. I wanted to get any 2 x 112 users opinions out there on their sound/experience with this setup. Ideally I want the setup flexibility (small vs large gigs) of having two 112s but am concerned about having enough oomph for larger club/outdoor functions. I also love the portability and odd "micro" look of just a 2 x 112 setup stack, but wondered If anybody has done any a/b comparisons on those options regarding volume/bass feel/etc. I believe Addlepate was the only user I saw that had a dual 112 setup. Thanks in advance.

I run one with a ampeg 6x10 and it's just a tone beast! It has an amazing eq and just sings through my cab. Paired with my sansamp pedal it has unrivaled tone. I would pick it over most amps on the market these days. I play in a melodic metalcore band and I can get anything from punchy to growly and aggressive out of it. I'm confident I could use it on any application I'd ever need.

Cobalt60

I had both the 212 and 2 single 12s. I sold the 212 because it was just a bit heavier than I wanted to move around.

I like the modular approach of the 112 X 2.

The 750 definitely has more oomph than the 450 but our volume needs are all relative. If I'm doing a festival/larger club I usually have FOH support anyway so it's a matter of stage volume and balance with the rest of the band. If I was playing on a gig where 2 X 112 and a 750 was not loud enough I'm probably in the wrong band.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Steve, very valid points. I haven't seen many people on this forum that have gone with the dual 112 setup so I was curious. I want this to be the last major gear purchase I make for awhile so I want to make sure It can handle a variety of gigs. I could of course just buy a rs210 later but, again, defeats my purpose. I'm even contemplating a rh450 with the dual 112s as it'd save costwise and from what I've been reading, it packs enough power. The real question buried in all this is whether I'd be losing out on something sound wise using the 210 versus dual 112 setup. I'm guessing its individual tastes and how the amp is eq'd , etc. though. Regardless, I vote that a dual 112 group gets started. Lol.

This may or may not help but I have a TC TH 750 with TS210. It's stupid loud and I love it. Still need to play with my old band mates to really ring it out. I'm still wondering about mixing the 210 and 212 or is the dispersion rate of the cabinets not close enough. Honestly. I don't need all that power or reinforcement but I'm a power fiend.
