Hey, I think this is the right place to ask this question, dont think its worth starting a thread over, but I have a chance to buy a Trace Elliot AH200S Series 6 GP12 for $200, is this amp head worth it ? I currently just have a small combo amp for my bedroom and am looking for an upgrade, is $200 resonable ?
Bearing in mind my faraway perspective I'd say very reasonable so long as it's going well and not beat up.

Well, I need to join this club. I still have my GP7SM (one 15", 200w combo) that I played for about 15 years. Best sound I've had, and the best definition, too. Bought it for $500 used in the early '90s. It's just too heavy and cumbersome for me now, though, so I went neo with a Markbass a couple of years ago. But, I love my ole Trace Elliot. I'm proud to say I found "my sound" on it.
Welcome Russell L #178

Now that you mention it...I've heard that.
But I did read on TE website the "X" was the designator for having a cross-over. Which allowed you to plug a 1048H in ch 1 and a 1518 or 1818 in ch 2, or for use with the BFC cab. The 2 outputs were also different wattage, Ch 2 being less for the 15 or 18" speaker.

Not all SMX are created equal as they called mine AH250 GP12SMX. No crossover outputs from my preamp.

The soundmanagement section splits HF and LF through their compressors before the effects loop. It gets blended back to full range at the EQ balance control.

The effect loop is high passable with it's own send level and return level, not sure where exactly it goes in the chain but it's post compression.

Just for clarity...

According to the PDF manual...
A stereo crossover with variable crossover frequency is built into the GP12SMX to provide Bi-amping facilities. The Hi-pass section is in stereo whilst the low pass section is in mono..

Later in the manual under Sound Management....

Note: Do not confuse these high and low pass output circuits with those of the cross over circuits. They are entirely separate parts of the circuitry and do not interact in any way.
Remember the high and low pass signals within the Sound Management section of the unit are recombined as one full range signal at the EQ balance.

It makes no reference to only X models have the crossover circuitry.:)

The GP12smx standalone preamp was incorporated into more lowly heads and combos than the big stereo 600's. Some mono amps in the middle of the range did have the adjustable stereo crossover outputs, pre and post EQ DI's, lines out, full monty GP12SMX preamp included. Not mine though.

...in US I think there were a few steroe 350x etc with fixed crossover.

Just to be clear 250 GP12 SMX has no crossover. Post EQ DI and the high pass effect send was the limit of the whizzbangery included.

You wouldn't know it reading the manual that came with my amp until you get to the specific pages dealing with the back panel. The preamp section of the manual is common to all the range.

Well poop! No tube driven preamp AND no Crossover......:spit:
I was gonna ask you if yours had the variable crossover control knob on the back of the amp. But, You just answered that, I think....
