A'ight, here's my cache of "cache"...

The Comando 15, a 150 watter, is a great amp! Wow, that little sealed box does deliver.

The GP7SM preamp (both the GP7SM and the GP12 SMX are AH250 heads here) is a good deal different that the GP12SMX... the 12-band SMX version is considerably more detailed- it's a lot more tonally 'sculptable'- than the 7-band GP7SM. That may also be due in part to the 2-band compressor on the SMX, which is a great angle on compression.

And yet, the GP7 has an appeal in its simpler feature-set. It's a more straight-up, sinus-resonating "Trace Elliot Sound", that is hard to get away from. If you like it, it's great! :cool: Definitely has the real-deal character thing going for it, and I'm starting to dig the idea of an amplifier having its own texture to offer to your own personal voice.

Might as well hand me over a number, if we can count that high! :p

Figured this would be the best place to ask. Can anyone tell me anything more about this combo? It appears to be the Trace Elliot GP7SM 200w head combo'ed with one of their 4x10 cabs (the 1048 perhaps?) in one box. Anyone know if an extension cab (say another 4x10) could be used along with this combo? I also think it's 8ohms? Any specs, info, or input from those who either own or used this combo would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking about picking one of these combos up used for $300.

I've got a similar Trace Elliot combo with that same head, but in a 1x15" configuration:

The preamp section has some very powerful tone shaping options. And overall it's a very versatile combo amp. I have run my own 1x15" with a 2x10" extension cab (an Eden in that case), and that sounded pretty beefy. Mind you, the 1x15" on it's own is pretty powerful, and I suspect that a 4x10" would be even louder. However, from a power standpoint, I think you will need most of those 200 watts to power a 4x10". I don't know that it's powerful enough to run the 4x10" plus an extension cab, too.

$300 is a pretty good deal. I think that pricing may be due in part to the size of the cab, since there's been something of a move away from larger cabinets. I would also make sure that it's in good condition, too.

I would not agree... if that is an 8 ohm cab, you'll get more sound running it with an extension. The watts on these heads is not to be dismissed as light-duty, and you can get full-on deep bass at volume with them. In fact you want to make sure you have decent speakers.

Especially with such a power section, I'll assert that with an extension cab, with a pretty sensitive driver, you'll get more sound. No worries about weak power.

Thanks Count and Shoe for responses. I only ask because right now I am just a hobbyist bassist so the amp+4x10 combo would be great right now, however if I ever got serious again with a band and needed a little more I wanted to see if this combo had the ability to be paired with say another TE 4x10 cab. I believe this combo is 8ohms if I am not mistaken, so I should be ok adding another 4x10 if need be as long as it is 8ohms?

I picked mine up for about that price. Mine is a gp11 mkv version. I haven't really needed an extension cab for volume but it would be nice to have . I'm going to try mine with a 2-15' cab very soon. The head can be taken out and used with different cabs which is also nice.

I was told that all trace cabs are 8 ohms except for their 2-15" so you can add another cab , no problemo.

So basically your's is the exact same as the one I am looking at except the cab on the one I am looking at is ported right?

I'd say so. You might not love carrying two of them around though, after a few gigs! 'Session' there above has it right, you can pull the head and mix n' match cabs. The 1048 is a great cab, but for my bread the real deal, if you had to choose, is the head.

And Shoe's got a good point about the cab- it's not trendy to have a big cab, so you're getting a deal on the whole jig. Dude, I'd do it...

Similar but not exactly the same. The porting is different and it's a little older(mid 80's) plus the gp11 means it has an 11 band eq. The one I have doesn't have the rock preshape, though. Damn it !
