Session's 15 is also ported (the two circles/holes on the right of the grill). I believe all Trace 410s are ported. I had a Commando 15 that was sealed (loved it), and I think their 810 monster is also sealed.

Trace watts are, well, not like other watts. Their wattage/power is conservatively rated. I'd say that combo was designed to work with another cab. There are others who will know more. There are guys here that are walking TE encyclopedias... Tracebassplayer, Tom Bowlus, you guys around?

If you're going to run an extension cab, run one that's rated at the same impedence level as the 4x10" in this combo. As for adding on another cab? From a tonal standpoint you may want to consider adding a 1x15".

However, if you're "getting serious" and thinking about upscaling, you may want to consider the age of this particular amp. Mine dates back to the mid/late 1990's. I love the way it sounds, but for the purposes of regular gigging it doesn't work that well for me. I've opted to go with seperate amp heads and cabinets that are lighter and more powerful than my own Trace, and that's why mine is currently up for sale. And amps, unlike instruments, may not improve with age. Especially when they're solid state. Tube amps are another story.

For the purposes of getting into gigging a couple of times a month, this amp is probably going to serve your purposes well enough. But be prepared for the possibility that you may outgrow this amp.

I was not planning on adding an extension cab unless I would have a reason to in the future. I never have tried the setup, however know many shun the 4x10 and 1x15 setup, but I know I should try it myself before I jump on that way of thinking. What does this combo weigh anyways anyone know?

I don't know about the weight of the one you're looking at. My 1x15 combo is at least 70 lbs.

For sure, and casters on it would be a must as well. I was thinking long term if I would ever need more speakers and volume I could pair this combo with another 1048h or same 4x10 extension cab essentially making an 8x10.

I can't find my post from last month on this thread. I had just bought a 15" to go with my 4x10 and GP12 AH150. Had some warnings about being too much firepower.

All that is true. But one thing I have noticed at the last few gigs is that my low notes (E, F, F#, etc...) are no longer being lost amongst the band. Y'know that resonance problem where the low end of the guitars/keyboards encroaches on your personal space. Well, I'm not a religious person, but encroaching be gone! Halleluiah!

Is that only to do with the 15" cab that i just added or just the fact that I now run at 4ohms. Maybe both. The mind boggles at using 2x15" cabs. Still, I like the idea of the mid range of the 4x10 to balance out the sound. The latter is on top, no farting noises yet. Maybe problems won't surface until I crank it up outdoors.

I even got some peeps come up afterwards and compliment me on "the bass". That's never happened before! My bass guitar look sure, Bass skills maybe, but actually noticing "the bass?!" Result?

Put it short I am in love with my rig now :D

It does run awful hot after a three hour gig though. Makes me slightly nervous. I almost expect to get silence and a plume of smoke mid-song.

I ended up buying it! Should be to me in about 3-5 days so I will post more then when I get it. Cannot wait! Oh and yeah I'll be looking into a set of casters. Who knows if this rig really impresses me it may become my new go to rig and I'll sell my other bigger amp and cab. Thanks to all who offered advice and input!

Rockin'. :cool: Don't know about the hot amp, you might bring it to a bench just for a look-see. You are probably using it hard- which should be okay I think.

If you're just playing at home or very small venues, don't be afraid to try a 1x15" with it. I'd suggest placing the 1x15" on TOP of the 4x10" though. It's a very different sound than just the 4x10". Also, I would think that the 4x10" is most definitely an 8 ohm cab if there is room for an extension on the head. Most combo amps that have an extension speaker jack are wired in 8 ohm so you can add another 8 ohm cabinet. In fact, most heads that have two speaker jacks period are 4 ohm ( two 8 ohm cabinets) loads. Only a handful are capable of 2 ohm (two 4 ohm cabinets) loads. What a steal! I hope you enjoy it. I'm guessing that beast is right around 110-115lbs. -Luke
