Tec Puma Bass amps

I have seen Gary Grainger use a TEC head with a 2x10 or 2x12 cab. It is serious. NO weak points loud and warm and accurate too. He played them in Europe and came back with this rig. Of course he could make a cardboard box with a transitor radio head sound good but also I see him as so talented that he would choose the best to get out his sound. If you don't know his "pedigree or credentials" look him up. Oh, he only toured Japan with Scofield and Dennis Chambers. I could have done that.:hmm::rollno:!
The TEC stuff does sound good.

"Taste" knob? At first glance that seems a bit lame. But, I'll not judge just yet.

Looks sweet, I want.

Link Removed "Pleasure Pump?" Does it come in an Austin Powers signature model?

+1.. some of the names are 'unfortunate'. That 'Taste' knob is the one that seems similar to both the Timbre knob on the Thunderfunk, and the 'balance' knob on the Walter Woods, from the brief description on the site. If so, that should be a pretty useful control.

:D Hey Tom, I'm glad to drop this amp off to you if you can't get one for review any other way. Let me know down the road.

Thank you for the offer, Ken. We have some product on the way (actually, Shane may already have it). It'll most likely be issue #3 or #4 before we can fit it in, though.

In the meantime, I am very interested in hearing how you like it. :)

Tom.

The compressor on the Puma 1000 is supposed to be the 'bees knees'. I don't use compression when playing live, so the more simple front end of the 500 (and 300) should work pretty well.

Quite frankly, I'm kind of assuming this will be at least somewhat close to the Epi502 voicing (I could be very wrong, of course)... a little fatter and smoother than the more punchy and aggressive Markbass micro's. We shall see!

Before we get shut down by some ratings board of concerned citizens do we really want to discuss the "taste" knob and the "Pleasure Pump" in the same sentence?

Hey, since you and Tom are 'IP' guys, did you see that Mike Pope has his rack mount preamp for sale finally. It looks VERY sweet. Check it out! There is a thread up somewhere if you do a search.

It didnt attract much attention at the time, maybe too many pics...

The sound in the life demos was great, the voicing is certainly punchy enough to be heard above the sonic chaos of a music fair.

The styling is just as much an acquired taste as Markbass's.
The wording, ahem, well, lets say, the other/better catchwords were already taken :p
