Tech 21 BDD vs. Character Series - Same Tones?

Yes, did a search. Didn't find anything useful related to my question.

I'm considering buying one of these two, but don't know whether I'd like to shell out the extra $$$ for the Character Series (programmable VT Bass). I like the tones you can get out of the Bass Drive Deluxe, but I'm just curious for those of us that own/have owned both, can you get the same tones out of them? I particularly like the over driven sound from the BDD as heard in this video at 5:32. Can I get that from the VT Bass as well?

There is a certain amount of overlap between the two pedals. The feature set is the same. The main difference is that the Bass Driver Deluxe is designed for more modern tones and the mids are scooped plus you have the blend function which allows you to dial in your unprocessed bass sound with the SansAmp sound.

The Vt Bass Deluxe's tones cover more vintage Ampeg territory but that pedal can produce more gain than the BDD. It would really be best to try both and see which works best for your playing style, bass, amp, and your technique.

Here is a demo of the Vt Bass pedal and it gets pretty crunchy around 3:07. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_be9GSlt_eQ
