The values don't translate as the the successors used a digital format (below). The original is all-analog: real knobs, real pots, real mistakes! It is an almost good idea, though.

Yeah, I know you don't have the PSA-1 (otherwise I would have suggested a MIDI dump).

What I was suggesting was - in exactly the same way the crib sheet in the manual visually depicts the control positions - using the Pro Tools PSA-1 plug-in GUI to translate the settings across.


As a last resort, opening the .tfx file in a text editor might indicate the control settings in easily translatable values (i.e. +-10, or +-100).

Plug-ins don't tend to have controls governed by the 128 values of MIDI (which the PSA-1 hardware presets are formatted), which in this case should make it easier, and more accurate.

My experience started with the GED 2112 run into an EdenWT400 effects return. I put all that stuff and a power conditioner into a rack and it's done well. I do like to run the Eden alone alot as well. Recently, I got a Paradriver and that little thing is just great. Portable, versatile and I don;t really miss anything from the other rig. How does the Paradriver rate in the grand scheme of Sansamps? I'm pretty pleased with mine.

I could be wrong about this, and if I am I'm sure I'll be corrected shortly, but I believe the Paradriver is pretty much the same as the BDDI but with a knob to adjust the midrange frequency, rather than having it set at a predetermined value. So it's really just a more versatile BDDI.

I suppose it's closer to distortion, while the BDDI is more like overdrive... but those terms are subjective so take 'em with a grain of salt.

I've known some bassists who love the Para because they couldn't handle the BDDI mid scoop. Of course plenty of players prefer the BDDI. FWIW, I used to run RBI and RPM in parallel back when I was rack rigging, so count me as a fan of both. :)

Thanks, that is an important distinction! The BBDI's mid scoop is pretty noticeable. I use a BBDI (or rather the BBDI circuit on my Fly Rig v2) and I like it, but I also add some mids back in - 500Hz on my amp and at 2kHz on the Fly Rig. I recall reading somewhere that the baked in mid-scoop on the BBDI is centered around 800Hz.

Big fan of the Para Driver here. I got it because until we take our music out of the "studio" (my daughter's room :laugh:) and onto the stage, I'm also our guitar player and I wanted something that could do double duty for direct recording. That semiparametric mid control is key to everything I do. I dial in a big mid boost (frequency at 2:00 for bass, 3:00 for guitar) and a hint of drive, stacking higher gain pedals in front of it when I want to get truly dirty. Double check this if it's incredibly important for you, but I seem to remember reading that the low control on the Para Driver has a center of 80hz as opposed to 40hz on the BDDI.
 
Greetings Clubbers. I’m looking at the Fly Rig v2 as an all-in-one upgrade for my Tone Hammer DI. I’d like to set up the Fly Rig with clean, OD, and fuzz sounds for live use. Seems like the two Sansamp channels cover the first two. Can the fuzz be tamed to match the levels of the Sansamp?

I like that the THDI can be setup to behave like an amp regarding touch response to OD and dynamics…I assume Tech 21 stuff can be dialed in similarly?

You might enjoy the touch sensitivity on Tech 21's products even more than the THDI. Just in my experience.

The BDDIv2 allows you to select 40hz or 80hz for the bass and 500hz and 1khz for the mids. Makes me wonder how much more comparable it is to the Para Driver as opposed to the older v1 model that's now heavily cloned by Behringer, Caline, and others.

I am also a fan of the PDDI. I use the mids set to around 750 Hz to counter the scoop that is caused by the amp/cab sim (look at the second BDDI graph, BDDI Blend measurement. From what I understand the amp/cab sim on the BDDI and PDDI are quite similar.) I do this just by ear though, I have no scientifical knowledge that is obstructing my actions ;).

The low frequency on my Fly Rig's preamp is set at 80. However, it's sort of a simplified hybrid BDDI/BDVT with a button to switch between the two and shared low/mid/high knobs, so that may not be the case on an actual discrete BDDI pedal. Interestingly, the mids knob boosts up to 12 dB at 2kHz if you have it turned past 12:00, but turn it the other way and it cuts at 1kHz (also up to 12 dB).

The mid knob on the YYZ works like that.

I LOVE my SansAmp Para Driver. It's the only pedal I gig with.
The mid control allows me to hit that sweet spot under any circumstances.
 
I'm also interested in the Kotzen Fly Rig. I use an old Yamaha thr10X for portable stuff and I'm curious if anyone has put a FlyRig in front of the Yamaha THR line of products. I'd think the versatility and selectability would be greatly increased and you could just run the thr flat. Correct?

Were you running each preamp into a 2 channel power amp, and running separate speaker cabinets?

BTW, I use a GED-2112 into a Yamaha stereo power amp, which powers a pair of Mesa PH212 cabinets. The “Drive” channel into one cabinet, and the “Deep” channel into the other cabinet.

Re RBI/RPM in parallel: I was using my friend Jonathan's trick that required no additional gear:

Something cool for Sansamp RBI/RPM users...

I wound up reversing RBI and RPM, which made the RBI "primary"... but the difference was subtle. I eventually got the VT-RM (VT Bass rackmount) and sometimes used that in parallel with RBI or RPM. One clever Talkbasser wound up running all three of those preamps that way... that was a bit much for me, I never tried it!

The Geddy rackmount might not work with this config.
