Tech 21 Club

Hey all, talk to me about the Landmark 600 amp. There's a used one near me on the local classifieds and I'm very tempted. Anyone played/used one for a long time? I'm wary that it is an older amp now so that might be a slight concern. Any vids I've seen sounded pretty damn good (of the very small few I've seen on YouTube).

Landmark 600 – Tech 21 NYC

That's funny, yesterday a Canadian friend told me that he just bought a Landmark 600 (hasn't arrived yet). My recollection is that it's similar to RBI and RPM in one head. I ran an RBI/RPM rack rig for years and really enjoyed that combo!

I wouldn't be concerned about age... except the possibility that it may have been mistreated in that time, but those amps seem to be built like tanks. Assuming all is well, the age factor is mainly reflected in the weight: 40 pounds. But I still know gearheads who believe that class D is lacking in some way*, so maybe that's not a bad thing?

*I don't get involved in these arguments!

Hey everyone, I posted this years ago and reposting again just because of its awesomeness!

VT500 bass head. Still kicking and thumping since it was first introduced.

Rock solid product.

I mainly use Class D heads these days for gigging as it's an easier carry obviously, but having the Landmark around to use at rehearsals and maybe lug to a gig here and there is very tempting. I used to have an RPM in a rack rig over 15 years ago and have used an RBI many times and they both sound good. I'm soooo close to buying this amp.

I sold my Bass Fly Rig on Reverb yesterday, but FedEx delivered my replacement a day before I expected it to come (plus a couple other pedals that I'm not sure I'll keep)

I tried it out a bit last night, but I need to spend some more time with the mid sweep. I got this one because I wanted something I could use with bass and guitar, and the adjustable midrange made this a very attractive option.

Have any of you ever stacked multiple Tech21 pedals? I was going to stack the Sh1 with the bass driver di v2 and the vt bass...I was thinking of powering everything with a single power supply or in your opinion is it better to use its own power supply for each effect? Thank you

To your stacking question, no, haven't tried that. Can't hurt to try though!

As far as power goes, I always prefer to use an isolated power brick for multiple pedals. Using a daisy chain power supply can introduce noise into your signal

I have tried stacking RPM, RBI, BDDI and VT Bass and none of the combinatios were good. It was just too much of a good thing and each unit was better alone. Darkglass B3K was very nice with VT Bass, but not with BDDI. Maybe latter combination was operating too much in same area.

I regularly stack an SH1, BDDI and a YYZ in different configurations and get fantastic results. To the point where my tone is always some combo of at least two of them. Their eq points are different as well as their drives. So stacking them allows for multiple tonal and drive options that just work well.
Thank you...my doubt was about how to power these stacked pedals and I would like to use a power supply with multiple isolated outputs

Sounds like @Pantofolaio79 already has this decided, but I recently went from a daisy chain to isolated power and the reduction in noise was HUGE.

Stacking overdrives can be awesome. I started back when I was rack rigging, using various combinations of RBI, RPM, VT-RM (two of the three). Note: I wound up using a parallel wiring configuration that I thought was more effective than series, but series still worked great.

When I switched to pedals, I've stacked the various Tech 21 devices I've owned with success (and I've owned a bunch).

There are some caveats to stacking. If you're thrilled with the sound of a dirt pedal soloed, there may be no benefit to adding another. The pedals should be complimentary: e.g. two sizzly dirt pedals may sound harsh; it's usually better to combine a sizzly one with a neutral or warm one. Also, it sometimes helps to adjust settings from their norm: maybe dial back the distortion level on each.

Caveats aside: when I get the settings right, I can combine three* distortion pedals to sound great in any combination: soloed, A+B, A+C, B+C, and even the "nuclear option", A+B+C. :ninja:

And yes, isolated power! Either a Voodoo Labs ISO-5, or CIOKS DC-5.

*I'm sure some can stack more with success, but my max happens to be three

Pedal order also matters. I've got a Bass Big Muff (warm, rich fuzz) and a Rat clone (snarly distortion) and Rat into Big Muff sounds different (better IMO) than Big Muff into Rat. Play around with pedal order and see what works. The worst thing than can happen is that it will sound bad.

It's often the case with fuzz pedals, particularly older style ones like a Fuzz Face or Tone Bender, that they need to be first in line or they just sound awful - something about impedance that I'm not nearly smart enough about electrical engineering to explain fully. Fortunately my Big Muff seems to do fine in the middle of the chain.
