I don't know the WT550 in particular, but regarding the VT and the pre-amp:
IMO if done right, they could work together:
- the VT has the tubesound, but not the "working" of a tube
- the pre-amp has the "working" of a tube.
With "working" I mean when you work your bass, a pull on the strings f.i., then the tube provides some analog flavouring, mojo if you will.
(that's at least my experience with tube-amps)
