Tech 21 VT Bass 1969 head!

excuse my short attention span, but I didn't read all the thread.

Facts about me... have owned RBI, RPM,
Tried in band situation: landmark 300 (sim to 1969 except RBI+RPM tweeking)
OWN: tech21 VT bass pedal w/ 3mems.

RBI + RPM are VERY different then the VT bass sound. 300 did seem to run very high on master to get decent volume vs. the weight of head. (maybe the volume knob taper thingy...) thats was at least 5 years ago and I probably didn't know as much as I know now.

What I know now: VT bass/1969 tone IS ***IS*** what I've been looking for! Very easy to dial in a tone I like. Is it everybody's tone? maybe not, but seems to have greater range than even the legendary RBI.

If I didn't already own a great head IMO, Eden WT550, I might go for the VT bass 1969. do I like the idea of 23 Lbs not really.

Conclusion: if like the VT bass tone and need an all-in-one head the VT bass 1969 might be worth it. if you like the tone but play in a 120db band maybe just get the pedal if you can find one. it would be dumb if they make only head or pedal IMHO. if you are tight on budget, but can swing about $200 check out the pedal if you can find one

Volume vs weight of the head ratio? This is a new spec we haven't seen before. Considering that an original SVT weighs about 60lbs more than our amp and put out roughly the same amount of volume I guess we're doing pretty good.

Seriously though you can't really draw any type of power conclusion simply based on a master volume setting. The original SVT has no "master" volume. Just because an amp "seems" to have a big volume jump from say 9 o'clock to 11 o'clock that doesn't mean if you keep turning it up the volume will increase in the same manner.

Your gig rig has 3 112 cabs that are about 40 lbs each which is 120 lbs and your Eden head is 20 lbs. I'm not sure how the difference of 3 lbs could make that much of a difference.

eden almost twice the power at 3lbs less and can run at 2 ohms load were important factors for me.

at the time I looked at the landmark 300 I was climbing the "need more power" hill and ended up with a 1200w digital power amp and rbi and case for about 25lbs. later found the eden then the VTbass.

it was just a wish to have maybe about 500 in a 20lbs head with the excellent vtbass tone. just sayin'

Agreed

But on the flip-side, if the head maybe was at least 500-watts, and had brought that renowned VT Bass magic along with specs/features more in-line with the competition's 2011 bass heads, this thread would be like Bourbon Street on Mardi Gras, or more like the Genz Benz Streamliner thread on TB, which I think is now up to Part-19 with at least two-dozen gushing posts a day, and the good folks Genz Benz doing shots along with the other posters :-)

Just kidding!

EXACTLY what I have been thinking the whole time while reading this entire thread. This is "the" marketing strategy!
Once these are sold and people are still complaining about the 300 watt thing.... they will THEN introduce the 600 watt (or whatever) version. $$$$!!!

its not like this is the last amp Tech21 will ever make??

I can't imagine a succesful manufacturer purposely tooling up, absorbing manufacturing and advertising costs, with the idea that are building a poor seller and the business plan to build marlket share for next year's product

To Tech21:
You guys are clearly very gifted at design and marketing.
Was the driver to stay with the 300 watt power amp section based on the fact the you already had it developed and manufactured?
You have to admit that whether a player really needs it or not, the market perception (and buying habits) are clearly headed to higher output bass amps for the majority of sales.

I think this amp looks pretty awesome, 300 watts is perfect for me. But I mostly play church gigs with a pa backing me up, so wattage isn't super important to me. Also I used to play in a three piece rock band with a loud drummer only using a gk backline 210 combo with no extension cab, so that's about 175-200 watts. The guitarist used a 5150 with a mesa 4x12, so with a decent pa you don't need a crazy amount of watts. Of course, I was pushing it pretty hard but it handled it. If the price isn't way to high I would love to have one. I do agree that a rackmountable preamp would be way more useful though.

I just sold my RBI. It was great but I needed more than one channel. Now I'm running a GK with my programmable BDDI in front. When I had my RBI I was using a Carvin DCM 600 as a power section. I needed a little more power though. I was clipping at the power section. I'm unsure of my next amp but if Tech 21 made that pre I would be all over it. If not I may just buy the VT deluxe and go from there.
