PATIENCE!

have patience!

don't overcook it, amigo ;)

Ive been looking for a SS preamp just in case my tubes ever fail me, and i was also looking for a distortion pedal that could do very smooth growly but that could also get mad.

I was hoping to spare 500€ in both, and i can have this awsome little thing for 155€:eek::eek: its not like i want it but more like I NEED IT!

Yes, hence this is going to be my new signal chain:

[Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Because the SMMH processes left and right signals separately, this lets me just use the VT on the DI signal and put a clean signal through to a regular amp if I want. If I want to use a power amp or go into the FX return I can use the pass through signal from the DI.

When putting other effects after the VT Bass it means I cannot crank the volume on it to drive a power amp (it'll distort the SMMH input). I don't use a power amp, but if I ever do I'll need a boost pedal like the Catalinbread Serrano Picoso to get my signal level up!

Is it just me or wouldn't you want your Filter after the VT? The VT will drive the filter, and should yield some good moog tones.

I just received my VT-Bass today & did a quick assessment.

Keep in mind I did not have a chance to fully test it & side by side comparison with my sansamp BDDI.

It did seem to have a different sound to compared to it. Initially it did not seem to have quite the richness that I find with my sansamp. Perhaps since I've used it a long time, the VT-Bass seemed a little lifeless. To me the sansamp sounds more like a tube amp then the VT-Bass. But that is not a good representation because the sansamp probably exaggerates/color the sound more.

But for some people they do not like the coloration with the sansamp. But even with that it is adjustable with the blend knob.

I did seem to get a good SVT sound with it, but that was because it was causing my preamp to distort. With some tweaking I probably get a good sound.

The good part is the mid knob which is now more adjustable.

This pedal I think needs a lot more tweaking to sound good. So I have not nearly fully made up my mind yet on it. Once I have time to fully adjust this pedal & along with the amp. Then compare it side to side with the BDDI.

I do think the sansamp is a little more of a one trick pony. I think I will be able to get more usable sounds out of the VT-Bass then the sansamp.

But I don't think the VT-Bass will replace my Sansamp any time soon.

I don't plan to get rid of this pedal. I am still going to add it to my collection.

O.k. after some more testing, I'm fairly close to my initial assessment with a few exceptions...

The character knob makes a big difference. Back it down a little or a lot have more of a tube tone. It has a more natural tone & probably REPRESENTS ( To me not necessarily sounds more or less like ) more like a tube amp then sansamp. Playing around with it has stupendous sound, probably not use to it yet.

The sansamp IMO has more richness & fullness to it. ( IT does not make it better then the VT-Bass. )

VT-Bass you can get far more different sounds then sansamp.

So my final say is while VT-bass won't replace my sansamp it WILL add to it.

I like both of them very much. To me one is not better then the other. They both/sound DIFFERENT pedals.

Great job Tech21.

This is from the Bass Player magazine article I provided the link for on page 11 of this thread:

It’s the character knob that gives this stompbox series both its name and its, well, character. Each pedal’s eponymous pot pans through a choice of amp sounds, affecting frequency response, attack, and drive to produce a specific amplifier’s sonic sensation. With the VT Bass, setting character before 12 o’clock aims for the powerful Ampeg SVT sound, around 12 noon it aspires to the tube warmth of Ampeg’s ’60s studio staple, the B-15 “flip-top,” and dialing up afternoon clock positions promises a range of distorto-crunch. The drive knob acts as each amp’s input gain would, pushing the virtual preamp and eventually pouring on the overdrive. SVT-like speaker simulation is part of sonic sauce as well.

Dude, thanks for the clips and damn you for giving me more GAS! ;)

I've totally got to get one of these. Being a fellow Spector owner and Tool fan, as well as a big BDDI fan, this is right there for me as far as any kind of simulator pedal goes. I only wish it had 3 presets like the PBDDI.

I never used to run my blend on 100%, but I've discovered it sounds best (to my ears) with the blend maxed and a mid-boosted graphic EQ running after it.

Ditto on that blend all the way up.

I like it and can't stand the sound of any bass alone anymore. I turn the presence down to 9 and boost the drive maybe to 1. All other settings tend to be flat. I adjust the mids with my amp.

I have a Boss TU2 tuner pedal and am wondering if the power supply output (on the back of the pedal) from this pedal is sufficient to drive the VT.

I suspect it is, however, I'd like to get other opinions, thoughts and/or experiences.

Thanks!

I still can't find a store in Illinois that has one in stock. I still would like to try it. I guess it's getting time to just order it, but first I have to sell my vintage EH Big Muff III.

I would think so. I use a 1-Spot to power it, an EBS Microbass II preamp, and two X2 wirelesses, so if a 1-Spot can do it, I'd think the Boss could, too.

I haven't tried it either but decided to purchase it and try it based on the soundclips JimmyM posted and other TB member comments.

I ended up ordering mine from Sweetwater. They're in Indiana so should be at my door Thursday. Also no shipping charges and no tax which helps.

Regards!
