Tech 21 VT Bass

Try some half-rounds then, they're rounds that have been ground down to look like flats and sound a bit like both. I like GHS Brite Flats and Status Hotwire Halfs. I wanna put some B-E-A-D on my P-Bass. And then play it through a VT Bass of course!

I've recorded some samples today using VT-Bass! I tried 4 different settings : flat(dannybuoy's), SVT(JimmyM's), slightly overdriven and overdriven.

My setup was : EBMM Sterling => VT-Bass => Korg PX4D(used as a speakersimulator) => ESI Maya 44

1. dannybuoy's flat

I switched different pickup configurations during this sample - paralell, single coil, series.

2. JimmyM's SVT
Invalid Link Removed
Pickup configuration is the same

3. Slightly Overdriven

Some Green Day stuff recorded with single coil

4. Overdriven

Some Metallica stuff recorded in parallel mode

IMHO it sounds quite good ;-)

Ordered mine today... It's going to be a loooong month to wait... (USPS international express shipping is fast, but the goddamned customs office will usually hold stuff for weeks at a time)

Finally got around to listening to Andrew's clips...

I'm amazed at how bright my SVT settings are on that clip. I also knew it was kind of scooped in the upper mids, but never noticed to what degree till comparing it with Danny's flat setting. But I just tried it again with the bass I used to record and sure enough, it's still really bright and scoopy. The tone rolloff on the bass helped make it sound more like my clip again, though. I prefer Danny's flat settings with a bump on the lows when I use it.

The second OD sound killed, BTW. That sounds owns with a Stingray. Nice playing, too.

Thanks everybody for a good comments about the tone! I'm really, really, really happy about how VT can sound! I wanted to buy a tube preamp instead of VT and use VT as an overdrive, but the more I play it the less I want another preamp! :-)
I have an idea to use my Korg PX4D in chain with my VT and use it as a speakersimulator. I need some kind of a signal splitter - first tone goes into PX4D and the directly to the board, second one goes from VT right to the amp!

I'm not happy about my playing, seriously :-) I recorded those clips very fast, my playing is quite dirty there...

Great clips. I was hoping if I could score the settings you were using for the fourth clip?

I don't remember them exactly, but it should be like :
Mid - 12:00
Character - Full
Drive - 12:00
Low - 1:00
High - 11:00

Just picked up one of these, and I'm impressed with it for the most part! Very good sounding, authentic SVT tones in there. I'm not familiar enough with the older fliptops to make a good comparison on that front. I've been eyeballing this thing for a while.

Before buying this, I had a rehearsal with a group doing some british-rock sounding songs. Played a Lakland 44-02 with the front pup only to get a P bass tone. Went through a LMII and had the VLE really dialed in to get some old school thump going. It was great sounding by itself, but I couldn't help but think an SVT would make it all perfect. So I decided to pick up a VT pedal, and I must say it is the next best thing (that I've tried at least) to an SVT. The nice thing is it really gets that tone out of the LMII/Genz 212 without having to hall around an SVT/810 setup.

Success in every way!

Got one! Now, any suggestions how to set my power head? I have a Carvin BX1200 with many options as EQ, etc. I also use a BBE Sonic Max at the end of the pedal chain (tuner, VT, Sonic).

Thank you guys!:hyper:
I'd suggest removing all those other pedals for now, set the Carvin completely flat, and do everything from the VT until you get the hang of what the knobs do. Those knobs, especially the EQ knobs, really affect changes quickly, so having other things competing with it at the same time is going to extend the learning curve.

+1.
