This is one of the most interesting posts I've seen in quite some time. Looking forward to seeing if these SF replacements become available.

Putting them in a soapbar housing could be an attractive option for some (like me, for example.)

No Problem , Covers in stock for most bass cavities.

yes. its no problem. the coverless replacements in Neo and ceramic were designed today. to make standard SF in EMG 35 , 40 , BTB 5 . Music Man 5 and a few others are available. if there is a cover i do not have i might be able to order.

To do 5 string there is some info i need to build programs. if anyone has a 5 string , a set of dial calipers or at least a ruler and a ohm meter 5 is no problem

The five string Super Ferrite pickups were the same as the four string puckups.

I had both Dynabass and Foundation in 5 strings, the choice was lose some signal from B or G. Later versions fixed the issue by using a bigger pickup.

Is it possible that there's some inconsistency with the SF manufacture and that the failures you received are just the bad ones or does it look like a choice made to ease production? Asking for my poor Patriot and the sadness that would occur if it shorted.

Also, it's cool as $#!+ that this is all happening.

There were some humbucking SF pickups too. Ronnie Goss first mentioned this. I have two of them. Oddly they are both bridge pickups in first generation TL5 basses. Given the shallow bobbin we've recently learned about, I suspect stacked coils.

The knowledge that these have a fatal flaw is saddening. At current count, I've got at least eight old Peavey basses with SF pickups in them.

I only have the pickups themselves. Scanning an empty shell could be easier, or it may not work any better than the pickup, but it'd be interesting to try.

After carefully dissassembling the SFs, @Matt Kustom has the empty covers. The dimensions of the covers are also listed on Matt's schematic that I posted. I don't have a lot of experience with 3D printing, but what would be most helpful to you if you wanted to try to make a cover?

Do you know if they are linear humbuckers or stacks? Those sound super intriguing to me!

Seriously. I am currently building a five-string in which I had planned on using EMG40 pickups, but if I could get a five-string set of SFs instead that would rock!

I don't, and Ronnie didn't know either. Apparently, they started playing with the design toward the end of the run. Then they switched to VFL, which is a sidewinder active humbucker. The second gen TL-5 used those, as did the Forum five, Axcellerator five, etc. Then, the Cirrus got a wider version of the VFL. Fun fact, while the SF pickups were made in house, the VFL stuff was made by GB, or G&B, a Korean company.
