Hi there OP, hey if you're serious then by all means put a divider in between the wild and store bought fish. And, how the heck did you come across a 100 gallon tank without knowing square 1 about fish?

Here's another tip: If your 100 gallon tank isn't on a nearly perfectly level and sturdy tank stand it will probably start leaking in a few days to weeks and may eventually have a cataclysmic ending.

This goes for any sized tank. I had a 25 gal that I came home to find had leaked over my oak entertainment unit, into the TV, and then onto the carpet. I'd owned it for maybe a year. All caused by a stress fracture from not leveling the tank when I put it up there - good advice.

Mount tanks on a layer of rigid foam insulation. It will prevent this.
