Currently on the hunt for a p bass to add to the collection, with toss up between the Player II and the 60s Vintera II.

Vintera has far more pros for me - prefer the sound of the pickup, love the vintage radius and frets and the gloss neck. However, it's an old style crosshead truss rod adjustment, which worries me as the varied temperatures of my practice spaces result in fairly regular truss rod adjustments to be needed on my MIM jazz, and I don't want that process to be a real faff.

I would love to know, from those who have a Vintera - can the truss rod be adjusted (using a crank tool like the Stew Mac one) through the small pickguard notch WITHOUT loosening the neck? Opinons seem to be mixed online, but if slight adjustments can be made without capoing, loosening bolts and tilting neck back then that would be fab.

Our prefix is now "DB: ". I do think it's easier to look at, and anyone who uses TalkBass more than a few times should know what it means.

The prefix works well for what it's designed to do. The problem most of the time is someone creating a new thread -- where the prefix doesn't show yet -- and not checking on "which side" of the forum first. We could all potentially end up doing the same thing sometime.

"Which side" -- And that's an interesting concept. I'm guessing if I just login to TB and create a new thread, the default location in the database would be on the TB/BG side, is that right??? So how is it that people accidentally slip into the DB side???

Would it be possible when creating a new thread on the DB side to trigger the display of a banner indicating "YOU'RE IN THE DB SIDE OF TALKBASS" or something of that sort???

To create a new thread, you actually have to navigate to the forum in which you want to create a thread. Typically, the only folks who unwittingly create new threads on the DB side are brand newbies to TB, or those who rarely use it. When that happens, it's not that big of a deal.

Most of the issues arise when a thread has already started, and posters start jumping into the conversation and bringing up points that have no relation to the thread itself, because they advise DB players to give a few turns on the truss rod or to play right on the frets.

By the way, sometimes slab-only guys have come over to the DB side and made valuable contributions to threads. As long as they understand we're talking from a DB-focused perspective, it's typically not a problem.

So, evidently some changes have been made... In the "TalkBass 2024 (Dark)" mode, the prefix now only shows as a little black box. No letters show, or at least not clearly. On close examination it looks like black letters with a dark gray background.

(@paul , I'm using the newest FireFox / Win10 if that makes any difference.)
