What about putting the DB button (and BG, or all the 3 of other filtering options) into one of the top lines, so we could 'flip the sides' with one click, instead on multiple clicking on the very small cross in not exactly easy to find 'filters' area?
I really miss that possibility in the new layout.

I have to say, I kind of prefer the bigger original "Double Bass" badge to the new one. In an ideal world, the new one would be fine, but I am moving at least 3 new threads created by BG players in the DB forums each day, usually things about a P Bass or the like, plus the smaller more subtle tag doesn't seem to have slowed down BG players chiming in on DB string/pickup/amp etc. threads without them realizing it's a DB forum thread at all. To be clear, I'm not saying that BG players are especially careless, but the evidence kind of points to the possibility of the smaller badge being too subtle and causing people just to not notice it.

What about a simple icon, like

beside DB thread titles,

and

beside BG thread titles?

Since we're talking about things we really cannot fix, I'll add this as a retired programmer/analyst...

TalkBass essentially defaults to the BG side. It always has, and to be fair there are probably 500 active BG players on TalkBass for each of us here on the DB side, plus many of us here also play BG.

But... If TalkBass did not default to one side or the other, and if at login a user had to choose which side they were to be on for reading and for posting -- and if that choice placed the user into that "domain" -- that would solve this.

I don't know if that kind of mechanism is even possible in the underlying forum software or the database foundation, but there it is.

Human nature being what it is, software defaults tend to guide people into that direction. That is why they were devised.

I understand the need for that icon. The problem is that it’s so big, eating up all the space for the threads title (what is the more important information) in the “General Forums” preview.

Make it short again, or place it elsewhere, maybe…

I am genuinely curious about the complaints of the Double Bass tag eating up the space of the thread titles. This has never been my experience, and the screenshot below illustrates. Is this maybe a style chooser or phone setting issue for some users?

That's the way it works for me now, Don. When I open TB, I'm right in the DB section.

Hmmm, that doesn't happen automatically for me, but I think I know why...

I have my browser set to delete cookies on exit -- I did that because I resent targeted advertisements coming up based on my browsing habits, to me it feels like an intrusion.

Soooo, when I come back to TalkBass, I have to click on New Posts in order to get back into the Double Bass section defined by my "Watched" forums -- which is a feature I'm very glad for, but because my cookies from the previous TalkBass section have been deleted, New Posts doesn't come up automatically.

Because I do delete cookies on browser exit, I'm aware that there are also other TalkBass features that are cookie driven instead of being stored in our profiles... I suspect that it's an underlying software design philosophy that may not be a choice.

EDIT: All that said, without specific cookies being present, TalkBass does default to the Bass Guitar side of the forum. Since there are so many more Bass Guitar playing members than Double Bass playing members, that's probably fair.
