I'm traveling (currently in Knoxville) for work. I went to a blues jam last night and wow! Really good musicians, super welcoming and friendly, and a wide variety of music beyond basic blues. It was everything I'd want a great jam to be.
Think I'll head over to Oak Ridge for another one tonight!
Thanks, Knoxville!

It used to be ...
When I was a Freshman in college, I had a Physics prof who had worked there during the Manhattan Project. She never forgave herself for her involvement, and was in the latter stages of drinking herself to death. I hope you found peace, Dr. Oliver. :crying:

I’m quite interested in this new Oppenheimer movie due soon; the moral dilemma he incurred and all…
Oppenheimer (2023) - IMDb
What a cast.

Wow, that looks good. There was a time I would have wondered whether Cillian Murphy had the acting "heft" for the job, but after catching a few scenes of him as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders, well, that convinced me - man looks like he's got ice water running through his veins...

I hear Oak Ridge is da bomb.

Now there are folks who like to brag about where they came from
But when they start that stuff I let 'em be
But it makes me feel like I wanna brag some
To know that I come from the state of Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it in that old Hillbilly way
Mister Red Foley came from Kentucky
Now, Ernest Tubb down in Texas, don't you see
But if all you folks out there can remember
Mister Eddy Arnold came from Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it in that old hillbilly way
They make bombs they say, that can blow up our world, dear
Well a country boy like me, I will agree
But if all you folks out there can remember
They made the first atomic bomb in Tennessee
Let's give old Tennessee credit for music
As they play it up in Nashville everyday

The jams at Ale Ray's (Pronounced Allie Rays) is very good, as are the jams at The Open Chord. Anything run by Roger Hay is quality. @kesslari, Where was last nights night jam held? I didn't know there was one. How long are you in town?
Some great players for sure, including some GREAT drummers. It was a blast.
Tuesday eve was at Roger's Place run by a guitarist named Tommy, and the drummers were Larry and Kenny (I think). Both were great. Last nightwas at Ridge Runners in Oak Ridge. Guitarist was Chris, IIRC, drummer was a cat named Yatti who was jaw-dropping. Bass player was Vince, great harp, keyboard, and sax players too.
Did I mention that it was a blast? :D
I'm about to get on a plane, but I'll hit up those places (and Open Chord) next time I'm in town, which is likely to be about this time next year, and hopefully we can connect.
