1) the neck humbucker with a Tele bass WRHB,
2) the big-poler with this

and 3) the bridge one with a G&L MFD, and I'm in.

Basically, I want a Leo pickup anthology!

Instead of the Delano you might as well go with a Musicman pickup and really make it a all Leo pickup bass. Not sure why they went with a Ibanez maybe they really liked it or didnt want to spend much cash on it.

Years ago, a friend of mine bought an MIJ Fender P Bass from a semi-famous Hardcore/Metal bassist. It had a G&L pickup installed in the sweet spot. It sounded good by itself, but seriously overpowered the stock P Bass pickup. The two pickups together sounded like crap.

He replaced the stock P Bass pickup with a Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder, so the two pickups were at least in the same ballpark, output wise. The two pickups together sounded pretty good, particularly if you like a massive sound.

What band? Im sure they only used the MFD and just left the P pickup for looks so it didnt matter it didnt match up.

100% I'd try the Tractor Bass on steroids. Not every day but if you're asking whether I'd give it a shot, heck yeah. A platform for experimentation.

Pickups typically weigh somewhere in the range of 100 to 200 grams. So, call it 150 on average, and that thing has 2 pickups past what I've ever wanted, so… 300 grams heavier than it needs to be. I go out of my way to make my basses as light as I can.

So no. Not ever.

Oh wait - I saw 4 pickups before, but it has 5. So now, it's 450 grams - over a pound of excess weight.

So, HELL no for me, but if it's your thing…., My bet is the person realizes their mistake, and is trying to get back the money they squandered on pickups, and they'll buy a nice P with the proceeds.

I also wonder what all that pickup magnetism does to the tone.
And $800 seems a bit pricey for someone's homemade bucket of used parts.

The band was called "As I Lay Dying", a local band here in San Diego. I think they're known outside the area, but I don't know how well.
My friend acquired the Bass quite a few years ago.

I wouldn't buy this but it's something I'd totally do. I mean, why shouldn't a bass have a rocket launcher or a bottle opener?

As I Lay Dying is def not just a local band they are def known. Very well known in their type of music. Thats rad.

Magnetic pull gives you extraneous "wobbly" tones - see "stratitis". It doesn't necessarily make the tone dark. You also have to be careful not to get too close to the fridge, or your bass will be a permanently attached piece of "artwork".
