I use a lot on compression on my hi-mids (700Hz--2.8kHz) so I stopped using the tweeter on my old cab. But I can see why Avatar put the tweet and mid on either side: less angling to give the drummer the air that their cymbals take away--and a speaker there no matter which side of the drummer you place the cab.

Personally, on top of my fEarful sub I want a 7" cube with a $40 Eminence Alpha 6" facing the side (singer & guitarist) and another facing the rear (drummer). I want it 16ohm so with the 8ohm sub I can get my amp cooking at 5ohms with 2/3rds of the power going to the sub. I also want a 6dB rolloff starting at 1kHz (that's -24db rolloff by 60Hz) on the cube. The rolloff-filter should be switchable so the cube can double for home audio/guitar.
Anybody else like to have one of these? By itself it'd be a very compact 200w rms practice monitor. Maybe Greenboy could design it and add it to his page?

Asking Greenboy to design something that probably doesn't appeal to him directly is usually a futile endeavor.

Althought it MIGHT be a good experience for YOU to design and build it, right? You're working with two of the mid chambers in a box...then a crossover to go with it. Might be a great starter project.

Count me in. My TB153 has transformed the sound of the bands I'm in. I've played 15's, 2x15, 15+18, 2x10s, 2x12s,15+2x10, 4x10, 8x10, 2 x 4x10, 8x8 - the TB153 is my favorite. I was about to begin a fEarful build, but for 399 I couldn't resist, and I'm so glad I bought it.

Thanks all...it's a hammer of the gods, especially with a 37" Dingwall B string.

Okay. Wish my sig would update correctly: must've been old software since I first posted it in 2007.

....You're working with two of the mid chambers in a box...then a crossover to go with it. Might be a great starter project.

One huge advantage is it'd drop your 8ohm 15 or 15/6 down to 5ohms for those who don't want to spend $200 more for a 4ohm woofer, or add a 2nd woofer, and you could stash it anywhere to control volume & dispersion. It could be home-built for around $100, all parts new, spraypainted, grillcloth, and no $15 handle, or shipped--with a small fee going to the (hypothetical)builder--for about $150. The handle, corners, and metal/plastic grills really could be avoided for budget-reasons: maybe desgn the top plank with an overhang, and jigsaw a handslot. Batting and bracing minimal concerns too because of the lack of lows.

I could design the electronic one in 5min: 2sq.in. wafer-board, 2 caps, 2 resistors, an op-amp, 9-volt batt terminal, led for batt power, and a bypass toggle for low-vol, full-range use: $5 in parts.[/del] Error: t'would need to be a specific, passive speaker filter to get the desired ohms-drop.

I'd share credit and build-rights with anyone who'd give me a proto.

I will always have a 15/6 style cab. My LDS 15/6 can do anything I ask from it. My one wish is that it was taller and more narrow than the cube version I have which is a bit awkward to move.

Currently the shuttle 9 and waiting for the outdoor season to unleash it's potential. I like Lucky #7 if still available.

I don't do clubs either, but I've definitely done a few 15/6/1 cabs.

I think that thus far, this thread illustrates what a small piece of the action these 15" 3 Way designs comprise. However, that is really kind of the point considering that all of us on here are true converts that have experienced some variation of these designs first hand. My 2x12 doesn't even see action anymore.

[You couldn't get your 8ohm sub box to 4ohms]... if you use an active crossover.

I wouldn't use an active 2-way c/o: just a 1-pole-active-rolloff-filter on the 16ohm cube, run parallel after the 8ohm sub:
AXB divided by A+B
16x8 divided by 24
128/24
=5 ohms.
OH WAIT, I'M THINKING SIGNAL RATHER THAN SPEAKER-LOAD FOR THE FILTER, DOH! SO YEAH, THE FILTER would need to be passive. I'll fix the post.

I'd be interested in how that goes - I'd like to learn about and possibly try some crossover tweaking in my LDS.

It sounds fine but it's a case of "not sure what I'm missing."
According to acoustics and greenboy, it should sound better when adjusted.
I don't really care to use the horn for bass playing though, so it's not a huge deal.

As for the crossover, Im going to take pics soon and post them here, that will help us see what I have inside my LDS cab. And if the experts say I can improve performance by getting a new "greenboy spec" xover from leland, I'll probably do that.
