The 15'/6'/1' Bass Cab Appreciation Thread!!

I've just started reading about fEARful cabs. Have I been under a rock? AND...There is simply too much here on TB about them to digest in a short time.

I don't know if I'll make one from scratch, but ordering a flatpack kit seems like a no-brainer. More than I originally intended to spend on my next cab, but seems to be worth saving for as my LAST cab.

I'm sure it has been asked somewhere, but what considerations are there when stacking with a different make of speaker cab? Obviously, stacking with something else may not even be necessary (unless it was another fEARful). Methinks a 15/6 would kick serious butt with a 15 sub. I have a Dietz 15 that I use now, but I could always sell and upgrade...?

What say ye?

Unless your band is super loud playing in large venues without PA support, a 15/6 will be all you need. Yes a 15 sub would add girth, but you likely won't need it.

As to mixing and matching cabs the best results are reaped when you match identical cabs. After that its a bit of a crap shoot. Sometimes it will work and sometimes it won't.

Short of trying one in person, this is exactly what I need to know. We play pretty loud, even with the PA. I play upright with my regular band, but I also have electric bass gigs on the side. I find that I'd like that extra cab in some venues. I've tried my 15 with my 4x10, but the 4x10 just doesn't cut it for the fat, old school gut sound. I'd rather have two 15's, but if a 15/6 is enough, that's great. If I'm not stacking, and I want full power from my amp (700watts at 4ohms), then I should be looking at a 4ohm kit?

Thanks man. It seemed kind of like what you were going for. I had the tweet off on the vid so you are hearing the girth from the 15" and the mid clarity from the 6". That cab sounds great with my Shuttlemax as well. Fyi, the bass in that vid is a 73' jazz with flats.

The only 4 ohm 15/6 I know of is the Avatar TB-153. Not sure on the availability of the 4 ohm version though due to the neo crisis.

Many people have their opinions on which style of 15/6 to get, but personally my money is on the true spec greenboy designed fEARful. Hundreds of hours have gone on into perfecting the fEARful design and while other offshoots may get close, I wouldn't bother with anything other than a true fEARful. Others may disagree and thats okay.

Thanks for the input, fellas. Research is half of the fun in the quest for the right gear and the right sound. I value and appreciate everyone's opinions and experiences.

I do not have experience with that particular 2x12, but do have a ton of experience with 2x12 cab designs. My experience is that my Genz Benz NeoX 212T now stays home while my Avatar TB 153 gigs about 5 times per week. The 2x12 is a great cab, but simply put, it lacks the frequency range of a 15/6/1 and especially the big clean bottom that a 15" driver can push. The 2x12 designs are light, portable, and more mid-range focused in my experience. They can sound really good and all the reviews I have read of the Avatar Neo 2x12 have been very favorable. However, for my taste and needs, 4x10's, 2x15's, 8x10's, and 2x12's can no longer compete with the 15/6/1 configuration. I only wish these would have been readily available years ago.

I was playin through that 2x12 and a 1x12 that I took the horn out of and put a mid in a week ago. My keyboard guy usually plays through em now.
Really sounded weak in the low end now that I regularly play through a 1515/66 with 2 3015lf's.
Avatar 2x12 is nice punchy mid range focus as stated. If you play a five string no contest.;)

Point taken.

I play a 4 string P bass, a 4 string upright, 5 string J bass, a 6 string Ibanez, and a 5 string NS electric upright (the low B just kills). Low end and versatility are essential.

A 1515/66 would be awesome, but I'm not sure I have that in the budget or if I want to pack that much around. I have a 15 that is really heavy. I leave it in the trailer for the crew to pack around. I want something more managable that I don't have to leave in the trailer, and don't have to have several sizes of rigs laying around the house. I think the 15/6 would fit the bill, be it fEARful, Avatar, etc.

If you have ever had to load & wrangled an ol' school Ampeg 8x10 this fEarful will please - it is about half the weight and a breeze to tilt and wheel - all my band mates grab this unit to move 1st cause it makes you look like you are working when you really aint doing ****.

PS: Add a 90d kick plate to the bottom corner and drag rails to the back side so you can grind/slide over steps and stage/tailgate edges.

PPS: add a horn for a 1515/66+1
