The 15'/6'/1' Bass Cab Appreciation Thread!!

If one cab is enough, that's great. I don't want to go overboard with gear. I've got too much laying around already.

I like the idea that the 15/6 is not the 80lb+ monster my Dietz is or the 95lb monster my 4x10 is. And for the record, I have no desire to drag around an Ampeg 8x10, regardless of the massive sound. A man has got to know his limitations :D Half of that weight, however, might not be too bad.

I'll have to think about the 1515/66 vs. 15/6 in terms of money and portability. Maybe I can come into some money and have one of each! Leave the 1515/66 in the trailer and have the 15/6 for my daily dragger. Maybe buy a lotto ticket. I guess I could always sell my P bass or one of my tubas. Or stop buying gasoline. :eek:

On a more serious note...

I'll definitely report how it works out. Thanks for all info/commentary and any yet to come.

That's just for if I win the lotto.

The 15/6 will most likely be my choice. I already have a 15. Of course, if they don't play well together, I'll have to get a matching 15.

Thanx man, she's got TIJF's on her, and I couldn't be happier with the tone. So much infact, I'm just using a BDDI into the poweramp lately. I play both fingers/pick, reggae to classic rock to punk to motown, a lil everything really and it's such a classic bass sound it works for anything.

mmmmmm-mmmmmm P bass with flats :D

Mine found its way to Western Maryland yesterday. When I ordered it last week, Trevor told me they were selling about 2 or 3 of these cabs each day. Anyone know if Avatar recommends a breaking in period? If so, how long? I was planning on scrubbing the walls in my house Saturday but if no breaking in period is required, I might just crank the cab , let the dirt fall to the baseboards, then sweep it up!!

Then turn the horn way down. You'll be fine.

There're a couple reasons:

1) The midrange driver falls off off-axis by about 3500hz or so. adding a horn fills in that gap. So 3500-5k will fill the room better.

2) If you ever want to experiment with goofy stuff like slapping and popping with lots of sparkle or certain effects that really benefit from horns, etc., it's nice to have.

It wasn't snarky so much as an honest suggestion--especially if you're considering Avatar, they don't offer any options. Don't let the horn dissuade you because you're buying something you probably don't need.

If you're buying a fEarful I always always recommend getting an on/off switch for the horn. The Avatars have lpads.

Well, good for you cassius 987 :)

Just use a 15/6 then.

But for some of us, that tweet can come in handy.

1) For me, it's especially helpful on songs that I use my bass micro synth on. It makes a huge difference in the tone.

2) Some of my gigs require a real new school, hi-fi slap bass tone. That tweet really helps me nail down that sound.

FYI- on the Avatar TB-153 the tweet handles frequencies over 5k I believe.

The beginnings of defensive animosity deflected by smiley emoticons and reasoned articulation.
With these cabs the 6nd410 and 6nm produce way more high end than this old school finger plucker will need and the horn would only accentuate fret clack for me, but for others it puts the icing on the cake! Duck Dunn would not need the tweeter but Marcus Miller would probably want it. YMMV:bassist:
