Well my Fender Jazz 5 is now gone and this one has joined the stable. It's a mim Fender Zone 5. I guess these are really rare here in Canada. If any one else has one pls let me know

Those Zones are nice basses. I had a really nice 4-string and regret selling it. I keep looking for one to pop up here in Winnipeg but it never happens. Congrats on a nice bass!

I'd like to join the conversation and have a membership number too.

Right now I play:
ZON Legacy 5
Peavy Cirrus USA 5
Prestige Wylde 5
Ibanez SR655PB
Ibanez SRX695
ESP 5

I have a few other "boutique" basses that are 5 string rigs that don't get played much.

Just got home with my first bass setup: Ibanez SR505 and Ampeg BA-108. I had rented a Fender P-bass a long time ago, but just never ended up buying a setup afterwards. I have always loved the feel of Ibanez basses and just had to go for a five-string to go for that extra low-end goodness.

I was thinking I would want to stain it darker, almost black given what the online images tend to look like. Seeing the brown mahogany in person, I'm torn. It's far darker than I expected so it might just stay the way it is, but with the black hardware it would probably look really good stained darker. I'll just wait until the 30-day return period is over and then decide. Until then, on with the practicing!

I guess I am finally in the club now so I will take a number, please. I've had a checkered history with fivers. I tried an Ibanez SR505 and it is now seeming like the string spacing was just too narrow for me. I sold it and went back to fours for a while. Then last December I bought a used Fender Standard Jazz V from the classifieds here. It came with 17mm spacing but I bumped that up to 18 with some spacers. I got along pretty well with that but I tried removing the spacers and at first that seemed to go well too. But over time I started tolerating and hating the fiver on alternate days, more or less. I was thinking about dumping it. Recently I got the notion to put the spacers back in however and I think that is what I need to do permanently because ever since the Jazz V has seemed quite comfortable to me and it even seems like I am starting to love it, a feeling I have never had for any fiver before! I'm not sure it is really a five string though. Right before I sold the Ibanez I switched to tuning my four strings in fifths which gives them the range of a fiver and I am keeping with that tuning on the fiver so it has the range of 6.6 strings tuned in fourths. The bass I have is a 2000 model year MIM and a previous owner changed out the pickups for split coil Barts. It is really quite a nice bass which gives the lie to the reputation that MIMs have with some here. I'm mostly using the extra range/higher voice of the fifths tuned fiver to support my efforts to learn chording. It works remarkably well for that and now I am thinking that I will be selling off the "baritone" tuned four string that I started learning chording with. But I am gradually starting to work that top string into my normal bass lines too.

I have a 5 string squier precision from 2003 that is a work in progress. Allready replaced pots with CTS and Switchcraft jack. A new neck and tuners are on their way from the US. And a Badass V bridge second hand is going to be delivered today. And i made custom knobs for the poti's long time ago, they where going to go on my strat. they are completely out of aluminium and look rad on the P.

To do List:
  • String Through
  • 5 string P pickup in neck position (open for suggestion)
  • 5 string jazz pickup in bridge position (open for suggestion)
  • Brown tortoise pickguard

#591 Cney - Nice customization job! Drop by with an updated picture when you receive and install the new parts.

Thanks.

I almost didn't make it in this club. The old neck was wide and perfect to build a 6 string out of it. But the truss rodd thread was messed up so had to order a new neck.
But all turned out for the good because i ordered a mighty mite 5 string neck. It is slightly narrower, just like a 5 string jazz. And it has 5 in line tuners which i think looks better than 4 + 1.
Oh yeah, and i get to be in this exquisite club :P.
