They could be any one of three different magnet styles. The Eminence 130040-A & 130040-B speakers were alnico with U-shaped metal covers, the CTS 130040-C had a round ceramic magnet, and the Eminence 130040-D had a square ceramic magnet.
As I told CB earlier today over on the unofficial Acoustic forum, the earlier-run white dust caps turned a rusty orange color over time likely due to a chemical reaction between the dye and the paper. No problem at all.
I believe most of the dust caps that turned orange were on alnico speakers from 1976.

Once again back to the drawing board with this guy. Trying to convert it to a bass cab, I have to either port it in the speaker compartment, and mount the horn as decoration, or try to convert the top part, to make the vents there. I have the white liner and speaker grill from a chopped 125 combo, so I can potentially finish it nice on the top, and this way create some more breathing volume for the speakers.
General question here about speakers...

In my case, the original Cerwin-Vega 18" is built like a tank. It has never farted or distorted even once.
I do like the modern stuff too. But this amp has a certain sound/tone to it.
More musings... I'm fielding an offer on a Ampeg 410HLF, apparently a "good one", i.e., not a mud-box. I wonder how the 370 would do with it? 4 ohms, though not sensitive drivers, particularly.
Could also run it worth my 4 ohm 210.
On paper my 8 ohm E140, chained with my 4 ohm 210 is a properly balanced combo, each driver getting an equal dose of power. Though that E140 is more sensitive than the BP102s that are in the 210 cab.
Just trying to do something reliable, but I dig my old iron... I'm in 3 bands, some gigging...

My friend has been running a 410HLF and 370 for years now. It sounds great and works wonderfully. When we've shared bills in the past I just play through his setup.
This is about two hours from me and about two hours too far.

No experience with those. But JBL's are always nice!
Overall I think vintage ACC stuff was high quality for that time period.
I'm going to be playing reggae, as well as rock stuff, with it, and I'm just worried about slightly heavy lows with those old drivers. I don't try and get too deep on stage, not with a 215 rig, but still, older stuff gets a tad brittle, and I don't want to find myself crippled mid-gig.
Cool. I got a deal on one, and maybe, just for the more grueling aspects of my musical life, I'll go get it...
Had one, but it didn't do much for stage monitoring, which is more meaningful really, most of the time. Our PA handles what it needs to for throwing it out there.
A 301, with a smaller, potent cab for deep sounds right at our own ears would be cool though...
Makes sense. The smaller cabs would be better in that way.

Got the 106, and the 140 head it came with, tho it needs to be serviced. I figure it'll make cool little club rig for Rock gigs.
Probably going to let go of the HLF, it's kinda big and squat, gonna be tough for in/out of the small entrance to my house... but here's the 106 anyway. Orange dust caps- I've been educated on that, gonna look at the magnets tonight.
