Ok so a few questions for y'all.

How does the 406 sound with a 320 amp?

Is the 406 too much for medium sized gigs with 2 guitars and an ape for a drummer?

Will I be able to hear it on stage or will I need monitors?

What is the going price for said combination?

If you were selling one of your 320's and 406's, what would you charge?

Currently I am playing a Carvin R1000 with a Carvin RL410 and can't hear myself on stage. I'm maxed out before the clip light is solid on. Even when I had the RL118 in the mix, I still couldn't hear myself. Am I chasing a dream and stick with what I have or move on to this combination or something else?

That combination is super Versatile. I primarily run the 320 with a 402 cab and like them together. The 406 wide makes everything sound 'bigger' with no loss of definition.

No.
BTW, oddly my 406w is only slightly heavier than the much smaller 402, but the 406w is easier to maneuver. It (406w) has handles and tilt-back casters.

Will I be able to hear it on stage or will I need monitors?

That depends heavily on things like your amp eq settings, band total onstage volume etc. Hard to answer, but I could make it work in my most demanding situations for personal monitoring.

What is the going price for said combination?

Have not shopped lately but start with Google searches, search here on TB, Craig's list. If you spend the time you'll become aware of ambient pricing.

This makes me want to ask what type of eq settings you go for onstage.
A 4x10 cab pumping out 500 watts (assumed output at 4 ohms) eq'd as a stage monitor (also assuming house reinforcement) should be adequate with a "hi-def eq" meaning, reduced lows, increased mids.

At one point I had a Carvin R600 powering the RL118 and the R1000 powering the RL410. I could hear myself then and actually had to turn down. Sounded amazing and could feel it! That is until something went sideways and the 600 smoked and the 118 zeroed out on ohms.

How much does the 406 weigh?

Proper recones are hard to find
Eminence OMEGA PRO-18C (US) or 18 Sound 18LW1400 (Italy). These would be excellent but the 18 Sound is a bit pricey!

Seems like recone kits are still available. Will go for that, it deserves to be restored

My RL600 actually smoked years ago. That's how I got my RL1000 then, my BX 1500.
Now my Mesa WD-800 is the new one in the rotation

Salvaged the CV187. Rub is almost gone and added rubber cement on the surround. Not perfect but good enough for now. Some corrosion of the center pole, almost impossible to remove all those fine brown dust particles from between the voice coil gap. At some point its just good enough or a recone

Interesting. Couple of questions if you don't mind: I'm wondering what kind of surgery did you do to get at the gap... Did you use MEK or some other solvent to dissolve the glue around the outside perimeters of the cone, cap, and spider? Or rather surgically cut around with an exacto knife? And does the CV187 have a felt or paper dust cap --- the AC188L has a felt dust cap

Felt. Cut off the dust cap. And then i go inside the gap with just plain paper so feel where it rubs. Sort of sanding it out with slices of plain paper. I use fine tape to get particles out. Hard to explain in English. And then I just feed it with a 20 Hz to 40 Hz signal for 15 minutes to try to push stuff out. And repeat this until there's no more rub. I never touch the spider, unless it came lose

Mine honestly feels lighter than that.
If I had to guess I'd say no more than 85-95lbs.
Reason is that I've moved bass cabs all my life. The last comparable cab was a Hartley 1800 pro 18' folded horn. It is rated at 95lbs. The 406 wide is the same tilt-back design, but just feels lighter. I weigh 155lbs and handle it alone adequately using leverage whenever possible.
The hardest maneuver being a dead lift, most times I could tilt it onto tailgates and stages alone.

I was surprised to see that too. I found the 406 Wide cabinet in two separate catalogs from different years, both times advertised as 130 lbs. I've got a 406 Narrow which does seem a lot lighter but I've never seen a published weight spec. Of course the Wide should be heavier due to the extra width and the ceramic magnet speakers vs the alnicos in the Narrow, but who knows if that accounts for it or even if the 130 lbs spec is correct.

My 360 and 136 Acoustic amps are long gone, but saw plenty of action years ago. Was so nice to move 136 around and not the 360. I see comments on how heavy the 136 is...... Gee, you need a Gym membership.

I put a JBL D140F in it and it sounds great still.

I just acquired this pair of 361's, I'm halfway through recovering and refreshing one of them..I also have a pair of 370's that are going through the tolex mill as well....gotta love this time off...I have also held onto an 880 mixer...a rocketship in it's time!
