Here is a blast from the past, my ex drummer just sent this to me, it must be around 73 or 74. Yup, I really did have one back then see I wasn't just dreaming!

Totally agree with you. The ACC sound is not hi-fi. Look else where for that sound.
Describing sound is subjective, but the best way that I can say it, is , with ACC bass amps you hear the impact of the finger, or pick, clearer than any other amp, followed buy a dynamic, liquid, almost compressed sustain thats very warm for a solid state amp.
Case in point, check out an excellent example of what I mean:

I got a little more information from the seller on the 220/402 cabinet.

Everything on the head works aside from the bright and boost switches which I probably wouldn't use anyway and I got a video of it working. The db rating is around 100db. Is that not loud enough for a band?

Here's the listing. Planning to meet him tomorrow.

That looks very clean. I never use the boost or bright switches. I doubt you will miss them.
I don't want to boar people by repeating myself, but, I cant imagine a 220 not being loud enough, unless you're playing large venues or outdoors arenas, and thats what P.A.s are for.
In my current band I play with a powerful rock drummer, and the guitarist uses a Mesa Boogie duel Rectifier.
My 120 does just fine.:thumbsup:

I found a different 220/402 with the original speakers and no issues with the head from the original owner. Even have the receipt from Sam Ash in 1980. This thing thumps! It's a bit larger then I had anticipated but I'm liking it so far! Totally different tone than the 1974 Traynor 20 watter which is dwarfed next to it making it perfect for re-amping DI bass in my studio. Believe it or not the owner even had a second 402 cab. I could only imagine how loud that rig could get.

One other question… Did ACC make a 1x15 speaker by any chance or was the 402 the smallest cab back then? I'm just thinking if this 2x15 is too much to lug I might need to swap the cab.

You're 100% correct. The 220 is certainly loud enough. I think the one I was looking at originally has something wrong with it. Definitely wasn't very loud at all.

Congrats on the acquisition of that fine amp and cab. You'll get some classic tones running that Precision through it. If you ask on here you might find a source for the missing slider.
I bought a 230 ( which is the guitar version of the 220, with reverb, but works for bass too.)
When it arrived and I plugged it in, it was very quiet. On closer look it seems like it had gotten really hot at some point. I sent it back and got a refund.
Then I found a mint 120, and that thing is amazingly loud. Almost as loud as my 220.

ACC did make a single 15" cab but it was later on, maybe circa 1980-1981? The experts here can weigh in on my timeline.

I have an old ACC catalog that shows it, the intent was it went with the 120 head, you got the 402 cab for the 220 head and the 406/408 cabs for the 320 head.

Needless to say you could mix and match these, it wasn't like a rule it's just how they were marketed

That rig looks mint, you might want to consider going back and buying the other cabinet, finding 402's in that kind of shape is really, really hard.

Funny how what goes around, comes around.

I use to use an Ampeg B-15 and then an Acoustic 126 combo amp but give up on them because everyone I was playing with, played too loud for them to be used. So I got all those big cabs and amps.

Now all of that kinda stuff is too big and loud for what I get to do now. So it's down to this now...

Totally get that! This rig will live in my studio so it's not moving much but if I had to lug it to gigs I'd have a very different rig.

That Mesa / Aguilar setup is amazing.

Here's my old 140 head, sitting on top of my Ampeg B-15S cab; if anyone knows where to get one of those knobs thanks in advance. Also, I need to go to a thrift store, find one of those drawer handles, drop the head & put it on the back so I can wrap the cord properly LOL...
