The active pickup on my Sire V7 just died

@Afi Scruggs just trying to take the edge off an annoying/frustrating situation with a little dumb humor.:)

Hope this gets fixed quick and painless. I would ask for entire preamp to get replaced if given the option because whatever gave up the ghost may have done so because of a problem with another part.

They've gotten right back to me. I took pictures and sent them. But I think you all are right. Seems like a connector on my toggle switch melted. I'll let you know what they say.

I've noticed a lot of gremlins plaguing a lot of Sire players here on TB. Also noticed the system is an 18V system. Not that the two are related, but dang always using two batteries?

Please let us know how it turns out. Other than that, are you pretty satisfied with the bass?

The insulation looks OK... free of burns and disfigurement... outwardly, looks like a normal solder job... I'm more concerned with the brown/orange fragments I see in the pic... missing any caps?

The technician said a chip on the preamp was corrupted. I've contacted Sire and asked them to send me a new on. I'll take it to the technician who will then install it. Thanks for all your insights. Several of diagnosed the problem better than Sire did.

Yes I am. Their customer service has been fairly good as well. We'll see what finally happens since I've had to email them again with the final diagnosis.

I know they don't have a very good reputation around here but I bought a KSD Proto J bass and it is really excellent at the price point. Customer service is virtually non existent but man the bass plays like a 30 year old broken in Jazz bass and the tone is excellent.

I'm still eyeing the natural finish Sire Jazz as I've been wanting an all natural bass. But the KSD comes in natural too. Tough choice for me!

I'd like to try the Sire J bass.

That's exactly what happened. They sent the preamp and reimbursement. We're all good now.

I just wanted everyone to know that Sire sent a replacement preamp. And they reimbursed me through Paypal. Apparently my problem was common, so they reconfigured the preamp. So far, everything is good.

Help! My sire v7 has a similar problem. The preamp does not work properly. The treble knob does nothing and when I turn the pickup selector all the way down theres no sound at all. I just bought it so it is under warranty. Please if anyone knows something reply. Thanks for reading
