The amp to have at home...

Hey guys!
The other day, my friend asked me which was the best amp to have at home, but I couldn't answer him. He leaves in a flat, but I told him that many watts doesn't mean it is too loud, but anyway, I couldn't answer him.
What about you? Could you answer him?

I run 600Watts at home with either two 410s or a pair of 115s.

But then again, I don't have any neighbors to speak of for the next few miles.

Tell your friend that there's always the VOLUME knob if he has too many Watts (which I would say can't exist).











I wonder: Can one hand clapping be heard? I guess with a big enough amp it can.

As we speak, I'm sitting at my desk next to my "home" practice rig. It's a MarkBass SD800 into an Epifani UL310 Series I. I've already practiced a bit and three other peeps in the house are still asleep.

As long as it's got a Volume knob and you can hear it, anything should work. Personally, I recommend you use your gigging rig whenever possible. So you've always got "your sound" when you practice and that's something you don't have to overcome at gig time.

Genz Benz Shuttle 3.0-10T

That said, when I play at home it's currently through my 900w amp and 550w cab

I have all my big amps at our rehearsal space. I bring my bass and board home with me and practice with one of those little Crate BX15s. All I do at home is practice. There's no reason to lug my gear back and forth.

IMHO a 10" combo is perfect for "bedroom" volume levels. Look at the Kustom DE50.

TC Electronic RH450 Combo. It's a very small rig, has a 1/4" headphone jack right on the front panel so you can boom away in the privacy of your own ears, a built-in tuner, and aux input jacks on the rear to plug a laptop, Ipod, or other audio input device into so you can practice along. A bit pricey, but it rocks. For me, it's the "best" amp to use at home.

My living room/quite practice amp is an old Peavey Minx. My basement/occasional play at church amp is a GK MB115.

+1 for the RH450 -- the headphone mute feature is great, and the preamp sounds really nice through headphones. It also sounds really nice at low volume.

Make it a Roland Bass Cube 30. Lots of possibilities with this amp, including MP3 input, and headphone out jack. It will play 'nice' or rattle windows-bringing twitchy looks from the neighbors.

anyway, I didn't notice a price range...which might make a huge difference when it comes to amp buying.

If money is no object, maybe a shuttle combo..suttin that could be used outside(or added to) in the event it was needed.

The rh450 is a good choice. I'd also look into a walkabout stout combo. They small enough to be out of the way at home, but the sound quite is as good as any other mesas on the market, and I wouldn't this twice about taking to a small gig.

i would way one of the micro heads and one 1x12. And he should have handy another 1x12 to pair for gigs and he's got a killer light setup
