2:14 pm here in Southern New Jersey. Snow stopped around 11am, but forecast calls for another front to come through a little after 3pm and drop another few inches. Right now we have about 6" of snow here, a friend about 20 miles up the road has more than 9"; Atlantic City supposedly has about a foot. Seems like there's a lot of variation in the amount of snow on the ground at different locations even just a few miles apart. I'm durned glad the hotel I work at is closed for the winter and we don't go back to work for another two weeks; you have to drive over two pretty tall bridges to get from here into Cape May and they're usually nothing but a solid sheet of ice during weather like this; in other words, even if the hotel was open I wouldn't be able to get in to work! I suspect it's going to be Thursday before the roads are really cleared out, as there just isn't enough snow removal equipment here. Having lived in South Dakota and Wyoming, I'm quite capable of driving safely in snow and ice, but no one else here does...I hate driving at 25 MPH or so, feeling the wheels of my van slipping on ice under the snow, and having people whizzing past me at 50 or 60mph (on back roads, yet) and praying that they don't spin out in front of me, 'cause I know I'd never be able to stop in time. Idiots! Just 'cause you have a 4x4 doesn't mean you can stop any better than anyone else when there's ice under your wheels, not unless you have chains or studded tires...and no one here even knows what tire chains or studded tires are! No wonder there are so many accidents here whenever we get more than an inch or two of snow!
