Ok, I lied--pictures tomorrow, not today! The primer coat isn't cured enough to paint today after all, so we'll be painting tomorrow instead.

But I'll ask a question in the meantime! I'm going back and forth in my head about what color to paint the neck (it was red like the body, originally). I had planned on it being turquoise like the body, but yesterday my friend asked if I was going to paint it turquoise or black. I hadn't thought about black. The headstock is black, so it would make sense. I think I'd rather it be turquoise, but would it look odd if the only black thing on the whole bass was the headstock? Do I need another black element to make it make sense? Thoughts?

You may want to leave it stripped. That's the way my SG is, and it came out nice.

I guess it's this weather, but the primer on the body is still a little soft, so we couldn't get it painted today. But I officially have a turquoise neck! It's the exact paint that was used on the '57 Chevy Bel Air.

Oooh, that's pretty! We didn't strip it, we just sanded the original finish. If we had stripped it, I'd definitely have wanted to keep it natural. I LOVE natural wood basses.

This thread is reminding me of the time I spent $1600 on a Warwick Custom Shop bass, and then successfully hid it from my ex for at least six months after it finally arrived from Germany. When she finally found it while poking around in my office, I was all, "What, this old thing? I've had that forever."

Didn't work, though.

Not to derail your thread, but long after I posted my reply back aways, I found a place in China that will customize just about anything, so I ordered a 22" scale SG EB-0 flame green for $290. It's on it's way.

Congrats on the soon to be new bass!

+1 on the heat gun, but if the finish is opaque you might try just a good scuff sand of the finish that's there. Let it be your base (bass? ) and spray over it.

No updates yet. It has been very rainy here so we haven't been able to paint the clear coat. Hopefully it will dry up this week!

Paint is on, and the first layer of clear coat is on! The weather has been uncooperative and it keeps raining on the weekends, so hopefully my buddy'll be able to get the last of the clear coat sprayed this week or this weekend, and then we can sand it smooth and get her all put back together. He brought the body in to work today so I could compare pickguard samples next to the paint and the knobs I bought, and OMG!!!!! It's beautiful and amazing and I'm so incredibly in love. Here's a preview of things to come!

It was hard to get a good photo because it's so. freaking. SHINY!

I'm going with the pearloid.

Love the color. I built a Strat that color 20 yrs ago. BASF calls that color Seychelles Blue. If I wasn't so in love with wood grain now, I'd make a bass that color also. The pearloid looks great!
