first Bass was a Hondo P, the first amp I think was a gorilla or a crate (don't relay remember, what ever the cheapest POS available was)

Yamaha BB1600 and a Peavey TNT 150 combo. Wish I still had the bass, I've been trying to get it back. My old drummer still has it and the amp. He can keep the amp.
My first bass was a Warwick Thumb BO 5, first amp was a Markbass Little Mark III and a Markbass 2x12 cab. I'd wanted a Thumb 5 BO since about 2001 when I saw one in a music store catalogue from a shop in the city where I live. Markbass were not around at the time but after first hearing them a few years back I knew if I ever started playing bass, they'd be the amps for me.
Hey! That's when *I* started playing bass! 1972 at age 16.
I started off with a $90 Kay bass (made in Japan I believe) and a no name small piece o' junk amp. A year later I got a Fender P bass and a Fender Bassman Ten tube combo amp that had four 10" speakers. Rock n roll!

My first bass was another Harmony, an H-22, purchased in a pawn shop in Tacoma when I was 15 (Feb 1966). I still have it, against all efforts to the contrary. My first amp was the little amp-in-the-case from my first guitar, a Silvertone-Danelectro, still have it too; first "real" amp was a Haynes Bass King, imported by Coral/Danelectro, purchased in March or April 1966-- 80 watts into 2x12's, sounded great-- only lasted about two years though, then went to semiconductor heaven. I much prefer my GKs now!
@non - Hmm, almost first. I didn't keep my first setup very long. I don't even have a picture of my first bass. Anytime I need to refer to it, I have to search Google for a picture.
My dad's Ampeg V-4 guitar amp w/ matching 4x12, and a fretless '77 Stingray (with an '80 Sabre neck) are what I learned on. I still have both; I inherited them when he died.
The first amp I owned was an Ampeg B-100R, purchased new circa '96 or '97. It was my only bass amp until Feb. of this year, when I got an Ampeg PF-800. I have pushed that B-100R well beyond its intended limits, and then some, for many years, and not one thing has ever caused it to be unusable. The Ampeg logo broke, and the caster receptacles blew out, but that's it. I've had 100 percent reliability from that thing so far, and nothing sounds better to me in terms of raw tone. Its only problem is that it is not loud enough sometimes.

This is the first bass that was actually mine.
I ran out through a 20 watt epiphone bass amp. I just bought a replacement for the bass over the weekend. In fact the pic is the new one.

It was 39 years ago this spring (roughly now-ish, April? May?) I spent the last of my coin on a brand new StingRay. The amp was something I could afford with what little remained of what I had. No clue what that amp was but it was a bummer and it disappeared back into the hole from whence it came. Paired the Ray with a Peavey TNT 100. The Peavey is gone. Really don't miss it, save for rare moments of nostalgic madness.

I didn’t start with a bass. I started with the bottom four strings of my brother’s Tesico guitar, which my father had bought for him (along with a really *hitty transitor amp) at a pre-walmart/kmart/target local department store. I used it to learn the bass parts to things like “The Boys Are Back In Town” and “Rock and Roll All Night.”
My first bass was a crappy EB3 copy ordered out of an electronics catalog (before you could order it online). It was horrible ... bolt on, played like crap, but it was mine. I traded a saxophone to pay for it. I later put a Gene Simmons sticker on it (they came with the Rock and Roll Over album), and used that until I bought my first real bass, a Guild B-301 in 1978.

A friend lent me her Aria (no idea what model) for a few weeks so I could decide if bass was for me, about 2½ years ago. The first bass I bought was your basic Epiphone Thunderbird and a Vox Pathfinder combo. Still have both with no plans to sell.
