The good news is that their site is back up (www.thebasscompany.com) The bad news is that I bought one off of eBay on May 29, and it still hasn't shipped yet. Ugh...G.A.S.

I see that TBC has a couple of single pickup AP 500 5 strings on eBay for $299 with gig bag. Wow! So, how is yr AP holding up? Have you gigged much with it? Miss having a 2nd pick up or mid knob on the EQ? How's about an update?

I haven't gigged it once, band's kind of on hiatus right now. It's a rock solid bass though, I don't forsee any reliability issues with it any time soon. It did go in a moving truck recently, and held up just fine
I'm still loving it as much as the day I got it. The sound is exactly what I was hoping for, it's wonderful for slapping. The string spacing is a lot wider than I'm used to, so I still fumble my right hand now and then, but that's my problem not the Bass's.
I don't miss the second pickup at all, seeing as i never had one to miss. The active electronics give you plenty of tonal options, which isn't a complete replacement for a second p'up, but lets you cover your options pretty well.
I DO miss the mid tone control. I really wish that TBC made the single-M series with the full bass/mid/treb preamp. That's not to say that I dislike the tone I get out of it, just that I occasionally go "wow, I could tweak it just slightly more perfectly with a mid control..." But I'd get the same bass again in a heartbeat. I don't actually need the mid control, and the MM style basses with the mid control don't have the snazzy pickguard.
All in all, still loving it and would DEFINITELY recomend one at the prices they're at. I prefer it to the stingray I played the other day at a local music shop, and for less than 1/3 the price? No-brainer!

Did I mention how awesome the neck feels? I absolutely love the neck profile they put on this bass!
And it's rock solid, I haven't had to touch it once since the initial setup I gave it on arrival. That's through countless band practices, a recording session, and being carried to and from band practice in heat and/or rain repeatedly.

now if only I could find a fretless I love this much... open that custom shop already!

Hey Darrell: any news on when the recent orders will be shipping? I am GASsing pretty bad here. I ordered a JT-400 JJ on May 29, and I have heard nothing yet about shipment.
