The Bass is too loud.

I played in a church orchestra for a while and the director always complained that the bass was too loud. One Sunday, when he complained, I just shut the amp off. At the end of the song he gave me thumbs up and said the bass volume was perfect. I packed up and left between services.

Wow… I echo the sentiments expressed here. Bass is ALWAYS to loud when I play ( Free Methodist Church). This was 2 years ago. I was done after fighting this. Hard to argue with volunteer ' sound people' no matter experience ( live music settings) of the players. We would have the board set up by experienced drummer ( sound man is his own right. gigging pro). Totally disregarded at following service.. Every time… I will worship in different way from now on. Not fighting it anymore. Marc

Rev - regardless of the venue, musichas a "purpose". It inspires, and makes what you are seeing more enjoyable and spiritual, whether church or a metal concert.

What sometimes gets lost in a praise band is, what is their purpose? It's not about the musicians, they are there to serve. The music is there to inspire.

Exactly.

Interestingly, I'm in a church now that only sings hymns from an old hymnal and a frail 80 year old woman plays the piano. I'm fine with it. In fact, I prefer it.

Funny. This past Sunday I had the sound guy giving me the go ahead more than once to crank up as we were playing outside. I didn't want to. Knowing the guy I was playing with as I do, I didn't want the bass too loud to be heard because I knew he was going to keep throwing my curve balls that would screw me up.

And he did.
