THE BASS ISN'T EASY!!

Where the bass is difficult is in that it is not as intuitive as other instruments in terms of it's function. You don't necessarily remember the bass line on the first hearing of a song where you might remember a guitar lick or a melody line as it is the most obvious. Another hard thing about the bass is being disciplined and consistent. In groove playing for example, keeping things consistent such as dynamics and feel. The guitar playing on the other hand can be more erratic and volatile. However, obviously it is hard to be a virtuoso on any instrument.

The bass is really easy. 4 strings a couple knobs and plucking. It's getting the music in your head out into the air thats the challenge. But don't get all hung up on difficulty I've heard people (not to name anyone but his first name starts with a Vic) Who play very challenging music that does absolutely nothing for me. Jerry Jermott however plays just nice R&B lines and blow my mind everytime makes me wanna Smile from ear to ear. so it isn't the instrument thats the issue it's getting the music of your heart into the ears and souls of the listeners.

Like a stripper once said to me in sante fe your only as easy as you wanna be

Someone on TB actually told me this line once, and whenever people have bagged me or my bass playing, or the instrument itself, i tell them this and they shut up

It's an easy instrument to learn to play.....and a very difficult instrument to learn to play WELL

If a person remarks that the bass is easy to play, just ask them to teach someone else how to play it. That'll give them a slightly more realistic perspective.

Yeah, the bass is easier to pick up than the guitar, especially if all you want to play is AC/DC. However, just try to train a newbie to play something with just a little swing to it, and watch the nervous breakdown start.

whenever I feel like bass is simple i usually end up seeing/hearing somebody just grooving so hard and it makes me feel like I've never even seen a bass!

It's pretty easy to just play real simple but that doesn't mean you can groove and have your own distinctive style. It takes time and woodshedding to become great.
